  1. It is the earth for your Horn, connect to the Steering Rack U clamp bolt, clean the paint off to ensure a good electrical connection .
  2. Here's a close up of the Leaf Clamps, if you have the Correct sping it should have the Part Number 308485 stamped on the top small Leaf? My spring had the Word "Cocker" also stamped adjacent, which I believe was the Original Sheffield based Spring Manufacturer? Hope you get it sorted. Regards Gary
  3. Managed to post an Image (Thanks Kevin) Heres a pic of my Refurbished Original Mk2 Vitesse Spring?

  9. I doubt you have a Mk2 Vitesse spring fitted with those standard outer Leaf 'U' Clamps with bolts? The outer Leaf clamps on the Mk2 Vitesse are thick steel wrap around type, I'd post a picture if I new how to shrink it enough!! The profile of the spring is also different to suit the Lower Wishbones fitted with the Rotaflex Mk2 suspension If you go on the Club Triumph Website you will see some pictures of when I refurbished an original Mk2 Vitesse Spring, if you do a search in the Herald/Vitesse Section you should find pictures, it's in the "What have you done to your Triumph" posts, around page 95, you should be able to make out what I'm on about with regards to the Leaf clamps?
  10. I've just completed this conversion myself, have a look on the Koni Rear Dampers post on this section for details of what's involved? I'm hoping to get my Refurbished spring fitted over the Christmas break, weather permitting

    Merry Christmas

Hope all TSSC members have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year If anyone fancies a run out in there Classic on Sunday the 4th see the TSSC Home page for details of the Notts/Derwent Valley areas new year run. I'm hoping to be there in the Vitesse.
  12. Had the same problem John trying to post the Canley rear suspension drawing, shrunk it to 15Kb but still too large?
  13. Eye to Eye Length should be 1014mm unfitted and the height from the underside of the bottom leaf to the Floor when the spring is resting on the floor in its normal position is 165mm. go to Canley Classics Website to have a look at the Mk2 Rear Suspension and the rear spring leaf clamps (Can't download the pic its too big?)
  14. A MK2 Vitesse Spring has 11 leaves and is a different shape to the normal swing axle Herald/Vitesse Spring, looks like you have the wrong spring fitted. The outer Spring clamp on a Mk2 Vitesse and the Mk2/Early Mk3 Gt6 is a wraparound type clamp so the Rotaflex coupling doesn't catch it, both the clamps shown on the photo are the U type with the bolt holding in them place? I'm suprised your rotoflex couplings haven't been damaged? If you need a Secondhand Vitesse spring I've got one you can have? Merry Xmas!!
  15. I've always been disappointed with the way the Wipers perform on all the Heralds/Vitesse's I have owned. I have never had a set that clear the far right lower corner of the Screen and assumed it was because of the curve of the windscreen and the lack of bend on the blade? I did manage to get some N.O.S. Trico blades when I first rebuilt my car and these worked the best, although they soon perished and split with being old stock I don't think Herald wipers ever worked properly, even when new!!
  16. Get some Primer on it Quick or it will start rusting!! I did mine myself with Zinc Phosphate and a Machine Enamel. I had a quote for £350 for Powder coating hence the do-it-yourself option
  17. Paul Is your car a Mk2 Vitesse with Rotoflex Suspension? If so, I would be interested in knowing what Rear Dampers you have fitted? Regards Gary
  18. In answer to your queries, here's my humble Opinion: 1. If your going to keep the car for any length of time then I'd go for a Mohair hood, Everflex type vinyl will be cheaper than Mohair but is better than the basic Vinyl stuff though if money is an issue? I've never had any experience of Double Duck type hoods so can't comment? 2. Depends who you buy it from but most won't include all the poppers and fixings, although most of the specialists should be able to supply everything needed. 3. When drilling holes in body work Measure twice and drill once! Masking tape to help mark up should help and be carefull! 4. Get help when fitting, start at the rear and make sure its central, do a search on the Web for hints and tips, but you may need some Glue for temporary fixing at the front? 5. Best to fit the Hood under warm conditions and lay it out in a warm room for a couple of days prior to fitting. 6. Not sure about Video's but Youtube may have something, do a search? 7. Not a difficult job on a Spitfire, but another pair of hands is always usefull, if you do have a go take your time. I can recomment the Don Hood Co. for the Hood and if your not sure on fitting it they can do that for you too. Regards Gary
  19. You can post attachments on here or in the Gallery. Here's a Photo of mine back in 2007 after its 4 and half year restoration in the Peak District (Chrome Hill and the Dragons back in the background) Make sure the photo's aren't too big though?
  20. It is quite a late Mk1 Vitesse then. Damson was a reasonably popular colour for the later Vitesse's and 13/60's, normally the interior trim colour was black, although I have seen some a couple of Vitesse's with Tan coloured interiors. Is the Vitesse on the road or is it going to be a full restoration?!!
  21. According to the Mike Costigan book on Herald/Vitesse Originality, Damson coloured cars where available with Black or Tan Interior Trim colours? The Commission plate will also give you a two digit code for Trim, 11 is Black, but not sure on Tan, 13 maybe? With regards to the colour, its up to you, its your car so if you don't like Damson paint it a colour you do like. So I take it you haven't got the Last 2 Litre Mk1 Vitesse then?
  22. According to the Rimmer Brothers site the last 2 Litre Mk1 commission number was - HC 12079. Do you have the last 2 Litre Mk1? The last three Mk2 models where still around a few years ago and attended the SEM at Leatherhead.
  23. Aldridge Trimming in the West Midlands do all the Car SOS Trimming work. Tel - 01902 710805 www.aldridge.co.uk/
  24. I can't seem to copy and paste the Link for the Correct Bushes? The Superflex Part number is SF374-0365-95KSS However check with Chris at Superflex, I was supplied with Blue (80 Shore I think?) Bushes and I didn't need the Steel tubes, I was charged £4 each plus the V.A.T.& Postage. Regards Gary
