    Thanks Richard & Steve.

F R Northcott must have closed down in 1972, I've checked my car's service book and the garage stamps change to other garages from 1973 onwards. The Northcott site is a car park now by the looks of it.

Please share a scan of any dealer stamps you have.  Every contribution helps me build a better collection of information from which to write posts and share with enquirers.

  2. F R Northcott, Mill Street, Sidmouth are listed in several directories that you check out at: http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/triumph-car-dealer-directories.html - They are listed up to March 1972. March 1974 show no dealer in Sidmouth.

I do not have any photos of this firm yet.  Have you tried searching local history groups or forum.  Many such group have websites or facebook groups and I have found them a very fruitful source in the past.

Triumph car dealers in New Zealand
I have written an article is about car dealers who sold and serviced Standard Triumph cars in New Zealand. I would welcome any further comments and material that readers may have.

  4. The rear eyes are tucked in behind the rear bumper. They are very close to the rear exhaust silencer. Any rope would also catch on the rear fog lights. Looks as if they would be better suited as eyes to tie the car down rather than tow it to me.

  5. I was really wanting to know about the practical side of things.

Elsewhere I learned that: There should be towing eyes on each rear chassis leg + eyes under the front bumper.  I will have a closer look for these attachment points.

In either case there is a real possibility of a rope catching on the bodywork especially at the front with the number plate hanging so low.

Pulling on the diff would be OK but it is a long way in under the rear of the car.

  6. I need to move my TR7  a short distance from its current resting place.  It is currently not moving under its own power.

Does the TR7 have official towing points?

How about roping a loop around the diff?

Where would you attach a tow rope at the front?

I don't know that the average mechanic gets any more of that "£80-£130 per hour" rate in a modern dealership than they would at a restoration shop. What the shop charges and what they pay their help are two different things. That said, I agree otherwise. I'm often amazed at people who might balk at paying, say, £15 for an OE-quality wheel cylinder for a Triumph but don't blink when shelling out many, many times that much for...whatever...on their modern car!

Beyond that, what we'll truly lose when it's only those "top end restoration businesses" is the knowledge base of people like Mark as well as their attention to details. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't ADU1B deemed so "correct" that it was ultimately accepted as more or less the "real thing" and not simply a replica?

I think you are correct about ADU1B which explains why it was allowed to run at LeMans Classic.

I have seen it suggested that labour costs are 1/4 of what has to charged out. + labour costs include more than actual wages paid to the employee.

  9. This new version of the website seems to work well on many different screen sizes and devices.  The menu that appears in the mobile formats would be better if the font size was bigger.

Such design is not easy and, as some have found when your browser remembers the old style, can present problems.  However carrying over the old pages does help you when using bookmarks and is great for web searches as the page addresses/links still work.

I agree the lack of search on the website is frustrating.
