If you have an oil cooler sandwich plate, there is an ideal spot on that to drill and tap for a sender, just above where the return from the cooler enters back into the oil gallery which, as Pete says above, is exactly the point where you want to measure the oil temp from. I might be over-cautious, but if you put it into a gallery plug hole it's possible you could impeded oil flow slightly.
If interested, I'll post a picture of mine and give you the drill and tap sizes. One potential issue is that it is less easy to seal the sender, as it sits into a curved (rather than flat) surface and it took me several attempts to seal it properly (using PTFE tape) even though the sender has a tapered thread.
Pics welcome please.
And yes take your point on sump temp not ideal.
I will post a pic of the sender unit later after iv completed the Mrs job list 🙄

Thanks Casper. Harmonics sounds interesting. I know the top speed was say 90mph so you would of thought 70mph was doable but I’m not used to using that many revs ( diesel driver ) or motorbikes which you can rev the tits off anyway.
Big difference in doing 60mph and staying safe ish with HGVs than 50 mph and playing Chicken with them. Yes A roads are good but sometimes due to times you need to sit on a motorway for a bit.

Thanks Pete. Happy to keep around 60mph not trying for 70. Nice to know she can handle say 4000 to 4500 without any issues. All engines are different and we all know the Spit V Rev issues, so wanted to check.
Thanks

Hi
Is their another location I could fit an oil temp sender unit other than via the sump plug. (Spit4) The sump plugs are small so do not allow much space to drill out and thread.
Any suggestions welcome.

I have a Spit 4 without overdrive. Iam wondering what revs the engine should safely cruise at. At around 3000-3500 I’m only doing around 50mph using accurate gps not my wobbly Speedo.
Experience and advise welcome. It’s a standard 1150cc engine.
Thanks

My passenger door doesn’t lock and I agree that I’m sure some one trying hard enough would brake some thing and get in anyway. I use a pedal lock amongst other things.

I emailed and got a quick response. Quoted me just over 200 plus vat for both my SUs. Iv got a few prices from other places and this is good value. He did say 12 weeks plus to me too.

Yes I do the u natural one wheel on the speed bump. Bloody nightmare round me though. I took my exhaust off last year whilst reversing and cracked the front manifold 😭

Will be coming tomorrow but without the Spit. It's still up at Richard Brisco to get the suspension sorted. Been a delay getting parts etc. Having it raised a bit to try and keep the exhaust on this year 😭

These are 3 brand new sml dials to add to a new bottom dash section. Battery voltage. Oil pressure. Oil Temp. Need to work out electric sender unit connection threads. Ie T off piece from current oil pressure light and sump plug connection for temp or if another location is available ?
Thanks

Iv got some smiths dials to fit. If some one could explain the connections required to fit the sender units (sizes threads ) that would be great.

Ok I’m 6ft 4in. I fit in my mark 1 Spit with no problems. Ok I look a tit getting in and out but driving is fine. I have size 13 feet so can’t wear my steel toe caps lol but pedal position is actually good. Ok the throttle is off set to the far right but I got used to it.

Hi all
Anyone know the club code for buying next years Silverstone Classic Tickets please.
Thanks

Good reply’s. I was going to put mine into heated storage as I have no garage. However I need a few jobs doing on the car and tbh the cast of storage will pay for these. One job that does need doing is the rear diff seals which have leaked all year. Is it safe to get these done in the winter or will the lack of use dry these out and put me back to square one? Should I wait to spring ?

Thanks Pete. Didn't know of Mick Dolphin so that's a great help. I've sent him an email so hopefully it's still available.
Thanks again

Ok. I'm not a happy bunny.
Reversed out of the drive this evening and crunch. My exhaust bracket caught on my drive way. Couldn't do it again if I tried but it has caused enough force to punch the exhaust forward and it's cracked my manifold almost clean in half at the bottom where it connects to the front down pipe.
Had a quick search tonight and it appears the mark 1 manifold isn't the same as the mark 2 or 3. It also looks like new parts are not available.
Any useful info anyone has to help me much appreciated. Do I have to find a second hand manifold or can something be adapted from another mrk or car.
Thanks
Grant
