  1. Thanks for your replies. The car is transforming from good old Russet Brown to white. I’ll look out those earlier whites as the leyland one is a bit cold. Alan
  2. Hi, My 1500 1980 Spit is about to go for paint. I’m unsure about the white paint. The 1980 Leyland White looks ‘too bright’ versus a 1977 in white I once saw that looked great. Does anyone know if there is a different 1977 white code? Thanks Alan
  3. Thanks. I’ll look these up
  4. Hi All, Thanks for your steers on primers. Which body filler and stopper do you recommend? I’d like to avoid too much hard sanding! They are for use over solid metal, not filling rust holes. thanks Alan
  5. Thanks. I’ll take a look at those primers. I’d like to start the prep process now since it’s inevitably going to be slow. The car’s had 27 new panels having sat derelict for 20 years! 3 part sills, floors, a posts, b posts, outer wings, inner arches, bonnet tubes; secondhand doors and boot lid. Well beyond repair really, but a nice project. Plus a replacement engine and overdrive box...done for fun use rather than show.
  6. Hi All, Does anyone know how to protect bare metal in a way that won’t mess up future painting please? I’m stripping my Spitfire and it’s going to take me a while to get it all done before painting. Fine in the Summer but the garage is inevitably a bit damp in Winter. Thanks Alan
  7. Thanks everyone. Appreciate your recommendations. That yoghurt pot idea is great! ive found wheel nuts from Steve at speedshack.co.uk Steve’s excellent and has also put me in touch with Mike at supaspin for centres. Alan
  8. Hi All, I've acquired these funky Cobra Super slots for my 1980 Spit resto. A bit 'boy racer' but I like them! Does anyone know who sell centres (60mm approx) and nuts to fit Spit studs? Thanks Alan
  9. Hi All, I'm edging towards the end of 4 years restoring a 1980 Spitfire total wreck that I bought blind on ebay for a few hundred after selling my long-term Morris convertible that I'd restored. The Spit's 'features' included replaced rear outer wings but entirely missing inner wheel arches; dolomite 1300 engine that had seen better day, Flintstone floorpans...but a thankfully decent chassis. I've found a decent 1500 engine and overdrive gearbox; new sills, pans, B posts, A posts, complete suspension and braking system + second hand doors & boot lid. Oh, and a complete interior required! Given it's a 'Trigger's broom' it will never be a show car, just fun. Does anyone know of a good (reasonable) place to get it re-sprayed in Berkshire? (I'm in Reading). Will need prep & paint (not my bag). Thanks Alan
