  3. Cheers Doug, yes my manual doesn’t help at all!
  4. Hi, Is No. 1 cylinder nearest the front or back of a 1500 Spit? Appreciate if someone can clarify please so I can set static timing. Thanks Alan

Hello! It’s time to refit this twin box system to my 1500 Spit resto (after 4 years of resto and 18 since it last ran). My question is should it be supported somehow in the middle? Aside from the manifold and rear boxes there isn’t anything obvious. Thanks Alan
  6. Hi All, I’ve found it impossible to get the screws required to refurb a Spit 1500 joint. But good news! Moss had them in stock, original type of joint. Not sure how they have them and Rimmers don’t. A
  7. Thanks Colin, thought that would be the answer but always worth checking I’ve not missed something obvious!
  8. Hello Experts! can anyone advise how I reattach the spoiler to my 1980 Spitfire? There is a gap in the grp quarter valences where the end screws should go! It was only held in the middle when I got the car (pre strip down) thanks Alan
  9. Hi All, please can someone tell me where this is mounted? Lots of bits missing when I took on my resto so a few gaps to fill! thanks Alan
  10. Hi All, wiring spaghetti stage of my rebuild! Anyone know what colour wire should be on the sunken spade on the heater fan please? Thanks Alan
  11. Hi All, I’m installing an overdrive as part of my resto and need a bit of help sorting the wiring. In the diagram (pic) 17 is the solenoid, 18 is the in/out switch, 19 is the inhibitor. I’ve no idea what the dashed boxes represent. Questions: There is a spare green (pic) that I could use to go to the inhibitor. Is this correct? Do I then simply connect the other spade of the inhibitor to the in/out switch and the second side of the in/out switch to the solenoid? Thanks Alan
  12. Hi All, 1980 Spit Please can a generous person post a pic of the heater pipe connections in this area. I took loads of pics when dismantling for resto…but not these. Can’t remember what connects to where. Did the ‘look at eBay pics’ but this is always dark on pics. thanks Alan
  13. I’ve ordered the rubbers from Chris Witer and he assures me that Mick Dolphin has the screws to replace the burred off ones used on a 1500. I’ve pinged him to check.
  14. Thanks All, yes the bolts came with it. I’ll do as you say. best Alan
  15. Hello Experts (and anyone else who is stuck with this!). Bought new rack to shaft joint as part of my resto. 2 issues. A. Different lengths B. Absolutely no chance of getting a bolt through from one side to the other with the shaft in place. Bought from the leading supplier. Am I missing something? Shame to put the old one back as (as you can see) I’ve been super thorough on the rest. thanks Alan
  16. Well I’ve ordered new seals from simplybearings.co.uk As a late car mine has the two sleeves. Be good to get this right rather than bodge it since the entire braking system is being replaced +pretty much every other mech part on the car!
  17. Now fully disassembled with second seal and sleeve out.
  18. The diagram also suggests the 2nd sleeve is still stuck in the housing Since I’ve only one come out so not to fiddle with
  19. Thanks Colin. mine’s the later one so may need to go to a specialist supplier to get the seals. Alan
