  1. If it's just a soft 1050 grade ali and you know the size and thickness I could ask the guys at work to punch out a few hundred on the turret punch. All providing they have the correct punch and die. Iain
  2. Loving this, I really do feel my electrics need sorting and relays do seem a good idea. I like learning and want the know more! Iain
  3. Thanks Doug, just googled and they are basically an electromagnet on/off switch? Graham, so the in my simple terms the low load side is used to activate a higher load application? Iain
  4. Back from a cake break 🍰 Erm, and apart from the obvious word description what is the point of this widget? At school I used to run in the relay, those black boxes don't look the same...
  5. I currently have two fuse boxes, one with blades and the other with glass fuses. It's as I bought the car and both have side blade outputs. The glass fuse box seems to cater for the standard loom and the blade box for some (I can't fit all the gizmos) the extra equipment ie afr gauge etc. It would be nice to combine all into one larger blade box but I'll have to see what room I have. Iain
  6. https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk/c-52-fuse-boxes-fuses/c-122-blade-fuse-holders/p-358-led-fuse-box Or this with the output connectors on the side not rear. I need to take a closer look at the spaghetti to see how deep I want to go. Iain
  7. https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/distribution-and-6-way-fuse-box Is this the kind of fused distribution board I require? Iain
  8. Thanks all, another job that I've putting off and bugging me. Iain
  9. Don't Burlen sell them or can it be made? Iain
  10. Thanks, the wiring is something I must tackle as it's quite untidy. While I have your attention I want to have one main feed into a fuse box with say 6 individually fused outlets. I assume this is called a distribution board? I'll take a cable from the battery to feed the distribution board(?) then connect up the various added things in the car ie trip master, map light, afr meter (with separate switch) etc. Iain
  11. Paul, I like the tight pvc wiring cover. Was that extra material left over from........ Looks a lot tidier than mine☹️ Iain
  12. The joys of classic motoring....is the world flat or roundish? Plus I have an air/fuel meter worry gauge! Happy fiddling and as I have found the Forum is invaluable, especially if you're fond of thread drifts......sometimes the drifts are so high you can't see over them! Iain
  13. Yes that's all I could find, phase one is the connectors! Iain
  14. Thanks, the ones from carbuilder solutions look fine. What about tidying up the spaghetti under the bonnet, a cable sock? Iain
  15. The jet and needle heights are the same for both carbs using a vernier and the carbs are balanced with a synchronometer. I put new float valves etc in a couple of years ago but that doesn't mean alls well, same goes for the new choke mechanism. If leaning off the front carb works then I'm happy! Iain
  16. Returning to my setup with 6J needles, I took the car out yesterday and it ran ok but looked at the plugs today and the front 3 are black and the rears look fine. I've spoken to the rolling road guy where it was tuned earlier this month and taking any leak from the front choke mechanism which was new from Burlen and needle/jet height issues away is there any reason given apparently identical setups the front carb can run rich? I have leaned the front a quarter turn to see if this works but why? Iain
  17. Firstly I'll admit wiring is not my forte, I can follow a diagram OK and the basics but know nothing about what widgets are available. Having twice taken off the bonnet and even after labelling struggled to get everything connected correctly (was much better the second time) does anyone have a nice multi plug type connector(s) rather than the bayonet type I have? It also looks pretty messy clipped under the ftont of the bonnet. Anything would have to be watertight and ideally be crimped rather than soldered connections as I don't have power where the car is. Cheers Iain
  18. The silver Arbarth had lovely stylish chrome interior fittings and burgandy trim. The 2.3 (or was it 2.6) straight six with two 45 Webers and tuned by Arbarth will certainly see off the Policia! The Vignale was a 1600 twin cam from A 125 but again the detail and finish was excellent. Both were little used then put into museums so condition was excellent. The Sunbeam was very tatty but a hanging offence to restore it. The guy said he changed the cone clutch and took the flywheel off only to find it was 76lbs in weight! Top speed 45 mph with a rear wind but at least the pedals were in modern configuration. My friend wants me to go to Pendine but I'm concerned the covid police will be in force. Iain
  19. Just back, good show with a selection of vehicles. A few Heralds, Spitfires, TR's, Mayflower and a Vitesse! Not a mask in sight😁 However my picks of the show are the original Sunbeam (my pick) and two drop dead gorgeous mafia Fiat's. Both RHD, one an Arbarth the other a Vignale. Both very rare and only a handful RHD ever made. Both up for sale at £45k, don't miss it for a fiver! Iain
  20. Bl**dy autofil, where are my Tena pants...?
  21. Is Stromberg site beefnmustard? These site do help the hopelessly obsessive tiddlers (me!) but there's no substitute for years of experience. Iain
  22. Somewhere in technical on the Burlen website there is a spreadsheet they use to compare SU needles. If you can't find it Burlen will help. Iain
  23. Surely it must be connected to the rear carb or petrol would p*ss out when the choke was activated? The unthreaded spindle with brass connecting bar and curly links as Paul's is simple. You could use one of the old spindles as the connecting bar and just need to buy (if you don't have any) two curly links. Iain
  24. If it works I can't comment! Playing around with your engine can cause some head scratching......see above posts! Iain
  25. Yes as far as I know the jets are all 90 thou. Iain
