Hi all,
I've never seen this..
Found out that the 200.000mile/325.000km engine im rebuilding had a cracked pushrod (no.1)
Going to replace all 8 (suspect metal fatigue) by used ones or new ones.
But would thrust old ones more then new..

The USA flywheel cleaned up... like new !

I know at work we have these from HBM.
Seems to work well (only used once).
A friend from the UK has a spot light of 20w from Lidl and pretty cheap.
Sadly not in stock..

Hi,
My old battery work lights all started to fail.
So in search of new battery /rechargeable lights to work on my Spitfire.
Also to use in my garage where there are no electrics.
Been looking around a bit on the internet and aliexpress etc.
So what are people using ?

Ok.. will tell you.
One is euro spec, the 'new' USA.
European used 7/16 bolts
Usa 3/8.
So drilled the holes bigger on the 'new' flywheel.

The teeth are good.
But... can you spot the problemo ?

More parts arrived !
Delivered the parts that the machine shop this morning.
And where impressed how fast I got the parts.
They are going to look at the conrod bushes for me to.
Now waiting on the delivery of the camshaft 🙃

First parts arrived ...
Also ordered a 25/65/1 camshaft from Canley.
Also found a good used flywheel and didnt cost me much.

First parts arrived.
Had a try to see if the conrod bushes had play with the new pistons / pin.
Oh yes.. (what did you expect after this milage !)
Do have NOS (Unipart) bushes.
But they need reaming, will put them in and ask the machineshop to get it right.

Had anothet look and a few guys i know had a look.
But bought a flywheel in the Netherlands, 35 euro and looked good (he seemed to have many).
Will see !
But will not trow the old one away.. you never know 😂.

Im in search of another flywheel for my Spitfire 1500.
Now .. mine measures from teeth to teeth (diameter) 30,1cm.
But it has 200.000miles
Friend of mine had one, but ringgear had a number on it.. Dolomite 1500 flywheel and measured 30,5cm
Ive had 2 guys that sell 1500 flywheels not sure if dolly or spitfire.
But also measure 30,4 / 30,5cm.
Also.. Dolomite 1500 was never sold here !
So whats really the difference between them ?

Been cleaning up engine bits etc.
+ been cleaning up all the bolts
Engine needs a rebore 0.020 (cilinder oval)
Crank needs a regrind to 0.010
+ head rebuild.
Well.. not to bad for an engine with this milage !
Flywheel is a bit worn to.
3/4th of the surface has a deep groove.
But probably found a good used one.
Now to order parts 😅

As I cant do much of bodywork with the cold and rainy weather..
Decided in november to get the old engine apart.
Doesnt look to bad after 200.000miles
Today dropped it off at a local machine shop 😅
Ofcourse done with Fox 😁

Sadly enough.. non in stock 😕
Here in Belgium you need to have a rear fog light when daily driving.
Got an aftermarket switch, but as im planning a new dash I wanted something more period correct.

Hi,
Has anyone got a good working Lucas Fog light switch (as on very late 1500's) willing to sell ?
And the chrome bezel that is around the hazard switch and the Fog light switch.

More done today.
Found the correct 1500 crank endfloat in my original manual.
And with testing with new thrustwashers it was 0.17/0.18mm (manual said max 0.20mm).
Crank has some scoring.
So will see about that.

Sadly mine was smoking and smelling bad.
The oil use was to much..
In the years before she never used to much !

Will have a look at no1 cam follower.
But as im rebuilding the engine fully it will be renewed anyway.
