  1. What would I do without you guys!
  2. Great, Thanks guys. I'll have a closer look at the weekend..
  3. Hello again. I have just had two new tyres fitted on the front, during which the nice chap discovered a bit of play top to bottom on the wheels. There is no side to side play, just top to bottom. It's only a few mm but it's quite noticeable. Is this the wheel bearings? If so, do they need a tighten or replacing? Thanks in advance... Charlie

Hi all, Should there be oil in my carbs? I lifted the black screw on cap on the carb and someone said "there should be oil in there" true? if so what kind and how much? Thanks in advance Tanky
  7. Good morning everyone and thanks. The clutch seems to be clearing itself as I drive it. i drove it to work this morning. The car had hardly been used and it had been stood for a long time. I'll keep an eye on oy and let you know. I think I have the wrong stalks on my car. They don't look like a 70's bit of kit, but I'll have a look around for some photos to see if they are right or not. I'll lift the carpets again and have a look to see if there are any holes. Should there be heat shields or something under the carpet? I think I might just do away with the stalk/wiper issue and like Mishmosh said, I'll fit a period switch in the dash... I'll have a tinker this Sunday and I'm sure I will have more questions, until then, thanks you guys... Charlie

Hi all, Does anyone have any idea about where to find an original tool kit for my 1976 Spit? are there reproductions out there somewhere? Thanks Tanky
  9. Hi all again. Well I picked up my 1500 Spitfire from Birmingham on Sunday and drove it back home to Cardiff so it had a good old run. Some things I just wanted to have you guys check out for me? 1) The windscreen wipers not working. (went through two showers on way home, it got a bit scary at times!) I figure that the WW's should be connected to the left hand stalk on the column, however that column is connected to the lights, even though there is a lights switch on the dash.... 2) The horn doesn't work... 3) The clutch really judders and shakes the whole car when I accelerate from stopped, and in 2nd etc. 4) it's like an oven in the footwell.... 5) I might be being stupid here but it has a brand new soft-top. If the roof is up and the seal around the door is on the outside of the window, I can't open the doors! If it's on the inside of the windows, I have huge gaps between the window and roof especially at the door handle end. What's that all about? 6) It came with a roll bar. Should I fit it? Door/window seals need replacing as some bits are missing...Where, Club shop? I have to say apart from these things, ( the previous owner lied about all these things working and it being without problems, and lied about the paintwork) she drove without a hiccup all the way back, so overall I am a very happy Spitfire owner! I can't wait to go to my first club meet... Cardiff/ Newport? Please advise as I would like someone with knowledge of Spitfires to give it the once over and let me know what else is wrong with it! Many thanks in anticipation. Charlie
  10. Hi, Thanks for the update! I'm brand new to the Spit scene so I'm in no position to help you out with tech stuff. All I can do is wish you luck and I'm sure some of the lovely people on here will continue to help you out. I'll keep my eyes peeled for updates. Cheers Charlie
  11. Fascinated. Can someone tell me what's going on with this now? what's the diagnosis? It's worse than watching Morse and not seeing the final 10 minutes!
  12. Hello all. Are there any members in and around the Cardiff area?

Oh my God. Thank you so much guys. I think I will be safe in my purchase with you looking out for me. I can't wait to see you all at a meet somewhere. I think I'm going to keep it BRG as it is at the moment. It has MX5 seats but I get the originals with it which will have to be refurbished and recovered. Any ideas? Thanks again. Charlie

Hello all. I wonder if you can help? I am just about to purchase my first Spit 1500. I'm a bit confused. I have a photo of the plate under the bonnet and the number is 85811 FH. However I have seen on another website that this cannot be from a 1500. Is this true? Am I just about to be ripped off? Please help. Many thanks all. Charlie
