I had written Mark at the beginning of the month and he had mentioned she was ill.
This is terrible news on top of everything else he has gone through.
Very very very sad...

Thanks for getting back!
You can get a set of bumpers front and back in stainless steel for 1000€ so maybe that would not be worth it but for the other shiny bits it might be an option!
-
OK. I will ask around ...
-
I was hoping to not have to go to a specialist. If I can maybe get the price down further it might be worth the effort...

A guy is selling a stainless steel bumper for a Spitfire for real cheap...
Catch is the bumper has a dent on the top on the "far side" aka driver's side LHD.
I did some searching online but most of the tips are for thinner metals like stainless steel doors on fridges or door trimming that is much thinner.
I know you can buff scratches out of stainless steel but I am wondering if you can get the dent out by beating it lightly after heating it with a heat gun?
The dent is almost 8 mm proud of the surface.
One of the rear brackets has also twisted and I am guessing welding is nigh on impossible, or is it?
I am only familiar with soldering and stainless steel is a pain to solder to...
-
Yep.. those are the ones I used. If you're not sure which way round to put them in just blow in one end. Air can only go through one way...
-
It is also called a check valve or non-return valve. It is not a filter.
Essentially it only lets liquid or air move in one direction. Just like a plastic bottle of ketchup: if you squeeze the begeezus out of it drown your hot dog in mildly seasoned tomato guts the bottle will not return to its former shape. You have to let air in to replace the ketchup you ejacul... ejected...
The pump/bellows works similarly but without the valve the water gets sucked back into the bellows. The water just goes back and forth because as the billows expands it sucks the water back in.
For S&Gs you can operate it without a valve and as soon as you put your finger over one end it will squirt but it will try to such air back in through the nozzles.
While I was at it I also bought a length of silicone piping in case my set up needs modifying or breaks.
2 valves, 5 meter of hose/piping (there were no shorter lengths available when I ordered) and a T piece cost my 12 € delivered...

Filling it with what..?
-
Yep. I did that. I put one in before and after the pump/bellows and it works fine!

Thanks!
Smart motors are about 10-15€ here so I am thinking of "upgrading". Maybe I can find a vane from a Spitfire lying around... and can save me the fiddling. :-) -
Is the Autobooks book about Spitfires any better/different than the Haynes?

Thanks!
Any tips on getting the vanes off the older motor?

I find dynamite is easier... by the time every is awake you can be over the hills...
-
This looks interesting... does it pull more amps / watts than the standard motor?
-
I need to reskin my knee pads as well.... I am tinnkig of a lighter shade for the dash...
-
I see ....
I was planning on putting bullet mirrors on the doors.
I had one on my first Spitfire but only on the (LHD) driver's side door.
I guess the passenger's side should have a "concave" mirror or something similar to be most useful?
-
Ah,.. so should the mirror be as far forward (towards the front) on door as possible then?
I am not sure I understand the "telescope" comment but I had blonde hair at some point that may have caused permanent damage...
-
So passenger side?

Car cover
in General
Posted
I used a "half garage" cover on my Spitfire's soft top when I moved to Germany and had to leave it in Michigan. It only covered from the top to the base of the windshield/rear window and only kept water from getting in.
The problem was it was very flappy in the wind and my Dad used bungee cords to hold it down and I had nice rubbing marks on the hood/bonnet, the doors and trunk/boot lid. The paint was already shot so I was not too terribly mad bit I reckon something more stable would have been better.
