  1. Looks like I have the (standard) smaller one. Darn it! This means I'm going to end up looking for a Vitesse tank..... not that there's anything wrong with my current one, I just hate going to filling stations!!!
  2. Could anyone tell me if my 1968 13/60 has the larger fuel tank, which I believe the Vitesse has? AFAIK the car is original. If not, is it a straight swap for a larger tank? Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the replies. Please don't think I'm trying to 'have a go' or be deliberately derogatory about the club shop, but I'm sure you must appreciate as a first purchase and as something as safety critical as wiper blades, it doesn't look good!! I'm happy to offer as much info as possible to help the shop resolve the problem, in particular if it isn't just a one-off bad set of blades. Unfortunately, I suspect it is more likely a bad batch of inferior rubber. Before I return the blades, I'll make a little video of both types in action and post it here to show what I mean. It will also demonstrate what I mean about either blade missing part of the screen. Thanks
  4. I've just made my first (and could be last!!!) purchase from the club shop as a new member. The order was for two wiper arms and two wiper blades for my 13/60. Last week I bought two Bosch blades from Halfords as an emergency when one on the car fell apart. To say I'm unimpressed by the MORE EXPENSIVE blades from the shop is an understatement - they are actually quite dangerous. They are clearly made from a very inferior rubber than doesn't have the proper 'squeegee' type action and just drags across the screen leaving streaks and 'pools' of water behind. The reason I bought them, as although the Bosch were fine, the drivers' side did not wipe the full width of the screen (due to the curvature of the glass) so I thought the arms must be weak and decided I may as well get a complete set, thinking as they were sold by a Triumph Club specifically for my car they would be superior! How wrong could I be? After putting the Bosch on the new arm the exact problem still exists, so I didn't need the arms anyway, it's obviously a Triumph design flaw that prevents the wiper wiping the full area. Suffice to say the 'club' blades are going back as 'Not fit for purpose'. I now question if I should risk using the club shop if the products are just expensive tat that can normally be found cheap on eBay. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Does anyone want to assure me that this is a one-off and the rest of the stock of hideously expensive wiper blades are superior and not a guaranteed MOT fail? Not a very good first impression I'm afraid.

  7. Hello! An age old problem.... the other day, the starter on my Herald 13/60 decided to just spin without turning the flywheel - hammer time! No, really, I gave it a couple of thuds with a hammer and it started no problem. I'm not 100% sure which starter it is. As far as I know it is the original type which I think is inertia? I'm assuming the flywheel is OK, before I used the hammer I rocked the car in gear to turn the flywheel thus hopefully ruling out missing cogs. I read somewhere it is likely the sliding gear on the starter itself if the flywheel is ruled out. What would anyone recommend the best way to try to fix? Would it be a simple case of taking the starter out and greasing the shaft the gear slides along? Or is there more to it? Any advice greatly appreciated! Simon
  8. Hi, sorry to but in I'm thinking of fitting reversing lamps too, but I'm not sure about switching. I have a 1968 Herald 16/30. Is it possible to simply fit a reversing light switch to the gear box? I read somewhere the thread may already be there and it's just a case of removing a plug and screwing in the switch, but I'm not sure that sounds right? Thanks Simon
  9. I'm someone who more or less lives in online forums and would be lost without them. I actually find it a tad frustrating that I joined the club just after an apparent overhaul of the online forum so archive information is a little thin on the ground.... that's not a complaint!!! Things need to change occasionally I too would welcome an online version of the magazine, but would also argue tooth and nail to keep the printed version. Would it be a problem to make a pdf available a couple of weeks after the printed one had gone out? The pdf could be made available say via the forum, but only to members of the club? Or at least only to people registered on the forum? A technical forum I'm a meber of has a two-stage forum registration. The part that anyone can register on and a section that only appears to people who pay a small subscription. (It's not a club hence a £1 month sub). Is it possible to do a similar thing here, three sections? 1 Anonymously viewable section 2 Forum only registered section 3 Club member section validated against membership number I appreciate it may not be do-able. Just a thought!
