  1. Alternatively direct from the ignition switch, ignition activated side as Richard says.
  2. Regardless of practicalities, isn't it wonderful to hear of brides asking for Dad's old Triumph (or anyone's similar type old car for that matter) rather than the default white limousine, usually a DS420, Beauford or (if you can afford it) a pre-war Rolls-Royce. (or if you don't know cars, being conned in thinking you have a pre-war Rolls-Royce....... it happens!) Ripping the passenger front seat out of an open top Triumph could work reasonably well Some do that with Beaufords.
  3. You need a torch, a piece of chalk and Spike Milligan I'll get me coat..........
  4. I've only seen them in black. I changed the bit that comes in the box from Halfords, as opposed to just the rubber. My arms were already chrome. I never got round to sending the rubbish one's back to the Club Shop so when I get round to it, I'm going to see if I can use the chrome from the club blades with the rubber from the bosch. Frankenblade anyone?
  5. I think it's fair to say that buying anything other than Bosch is really false economy! Especially as you can buy them from Halfords for a reasonable price - not a great deal more than Halfords own brand and I think cheaper than 'other' brands.
  6. Please don't get confused between the device known as 'Tracker' and a GPS tracker, although I'm not suggesting anyone has, but it's worth mentioning the difference. 'Tracker' is a pre-historic version of a tracking device. It emits a signal which is picked up by someone with a 'Tracker' receiver. Many Police vehicles were fitted with them. They had a cluster of four small aerials on the roof and a display in the car rather like a sci-fi blipper that gets louder/more frequent the closer you get, I think it may display how close you are. The down side is that the receiver had to be within a few miles of the transmitter for it to be picked up at all, so police vehicles still have to 'hunt' for the signal, then navigate using the signal strength as guidance. With a modern GPS trackign device, the device simply sends it's GPS co-ordinates via the mobile phone network to a mobile phone or website, so it's just a case of entering those co-ordinates in to a Tom-Tom, Google Maps or whatever your prefered GPS navigator weapon of choice happens to be. GPS is good to around two meters! If the JCB mentioned above is fitted with 'Tracker' (as opposed to a GPS device) it would explain why it has not been found, as they can only know roughly where it is not it's exact GPS co-ordinates.
  7. I created a website http://triumphspotting.com/ back in November to do what you suggest. I tried to promote it here, on Facebook and to CT in the same way. No-one interested, indeed more negative comments than anything so I've given up promoting it. Luckily I already had the hosting so it only cost me a couple of quid for the domain name. ( I had no intentions of making money from it BTW!) My idea was to do something along the lines of http://www.bentleyspotting.com/ which is a thriving website with lots of interest and positivity. Sometimes it's just not worth bothering trying.... someone will always find a reason to put you/it down or complain maybe it's a similar thing with the forum?
  8. Thanks. But how annoying that I bought the one's recommended for the Herald/Vitesse that don't have an adjustable pendulum
  9. Sorry to but in chaps...... I have securon belts but haven't seen anything about reel adjustment. My problem is with the reel vertical, the belt has a bit of a twist before it goes through the guide on the b-post, with it not being directly above the reel. Any chance you could describe the adjustments? Cheers Simon
  10. Thank folks As soon as it's warn enough that I don't risk my fingers snapping off, I'll have a tinker!
  11. It's ironic that I have actually found myself in that position for the last 5 years or so. When I bought my RR Silver Spirit in 2008, it was taxed and insured on the same day. Just try to renew online!! Computer says "no" because the insurance will not be valid on the first day of the new tax. Why? Because EVERYONE BUT MY systems are so stupidly slow at updating things. So despite the fact I renewed the insurance, it only goes 'live' about a week before the start date. You have to tax online at least a week (I usually do two) to allow for post, before it's due. So in order to renew online, I've been in the position of being refused tax until a couple of days before the old ran out..... so I was in the position of not being able to display a current tax disk, because it was literally IN THE POST!!!!! One year I'd promised to take someone out in the car so I decided "***k 'em!" Didn't get stopped or a nasty letter At least those days are behind us as there is no longer the offence of "not displaying"
  12. I was a bit more scientific when I started this morning On full choke it was as described and it would rev OK. However, when I pulled away the power wasn't fantastic and although it wasn't warm enough to push the choke fully in, I did so as I drove down the road and there was a little boost of power as I pushed it in.. This leads me to think that it is probably as simple as fast idle not set correctly and I'm over compensating by pulling the choke fully out when I probably don't need to. Consequently it is running waaay too rich hence the lack of power under load. I suspect if I tweak the fast idle so it'll run with less choke (and eventually tweak so pulling it fully out doesn't over choke) all will be well Sorry for my waffling, I'm more thinking out loud... does my theory sound about right though?
  13. This may not be a problem.... I've not much experience with manual chokes! When I start my 13/60 (original engine/carb) on full choke it runs pretty rough. It chuggs and pops and sounds like it is miss-firing and threatens to stall if I so much as dare to push the choke in slightly. It's fine if I press the throttle the revs build up and it doesn't try to stall. After a couple of minutes when the engine is warm enough to run without choke, it runs beautifully so nothing basically wrong. Does this sound fairly normal or does my carb need a tweak? Cheers Simon
  14. Seasons Greetings I seem to have caught the worst of the leaks in the Herald, namely the windscreen although there is still a tiny weap, how the heck does it do it! However, when it hammers down, I've had some water on the floor (front carpets out while it's leaking) both sides that has come from INSIDE the A-post. Currently, I can't work out how the heck it's geting in there. I do know thers a little leak from the washer jets and probably the wipers, but I can't see how water could get from either to inside the A-posts? It should just drip straight down. The only thing that's just struck me, could water be getting between the A-post and the door and then getting inside the pilar through the hinges somehow? Or are the A-posts hollow up to the top and open to the headlining?
  15. If this is indeed true, then it's an interesting "England" reverse flag, oh, and he's hung his Union Flag back to front too
  16. Just a little point..... I understand the arguement about bandwidth, however, the fact you have more or less no limit in the gallery which you can then link directly to in a post, makes the bandwidth arguement rather invalid - all the data is (presumably) stored in the same database on the same server, so it takes exactly the same amount of total bandwidth and storage space regardless of whether you post a pic in a post or via the gallery. Personally I hate the whole 3rd party route for a couple of reasons. 1. It's a bloomin' faff compared to uploading direct to a post. 2. My picture archive is on my drives at home and I know where most stuff is. I just share certain things online. I don't want to be opening additional accounts as I'm unlikely to want to share a pic of a corroded pipe on my main flickr account (for example!) 3. Using the example above, although the forum is fairly public, I may wish to try to restrict pictues to the forum, particularly so they remain 'in context'. Using a 3rd party means they will probably be findable by anyone in the world as they would HAVE to be set to 'public' or they won't show up on the forum. How many of us growl when we see an "Attachement Unavailable" post in a Facebook group because someone has locked their account to friends only yet decided to share without changing the audience? 4. I'm sure many of us quickly get tired of those forums that encourage 3rd party photo hosting due to the sheer number of "Image Unavailable" thumbnails in posts even just 6 months old let alone from a couple of years ago, probably because the poster posted it 'temporarily' or they just used the 3rd party for a while and the account was a free one which expires after lack of use after X number of months or the poster changed to a.n.other 3rd party and deleted the previous account and so on. OK, that was four!! Please could the forum owners/mods look in to it? The fact that the gallery seems unlimited but posts are just doesn't add up in terms of bandwidth/storage as I've explained. Merry Christmas!!! :D
  17. I just find it insane that anyone would consider having to tell the insurance company that they have changed tyres, winter or otherwise??? Where the heck did that notion come from in the first place I wonder? Following that logic, and referencing my issue with the club supplied wiper blades, I should have informed my insurance that I changed wiper blades to a different type, and when I refitted the Bosch, that I changed them to a set that exceeds the manufacturers specification. I challenge anyone to say how my wiper blade example is any different to tyres! I bet you can't
  18. Ah! That accounts for the higher cost of the TEX ones. So what we ideally need is Bosch rubber on TEX metal
  19. Thanks Steve. I just had a look and it's the 6-screw type
  20. Which begs the question "How do we get more members using the forum?" How many don't know about or understand the value of the forum and/or how many simply wouldn't benefit from it? It's the same story on the RREC forum too. The forums are a fantastic way to both find information and interact with fellow enthusiasts who may otherwise never meet, let alone speak. Not everyone, me included, can make local meets (noggin & natter or whatever you choose to call them ) or even get to many shows. The forum is a great way of being part of the community without having to be there in person. There must be a fair number of the membership who just receive the magazine and barely, if ever, interact with the club.
  21. It seems the good fellows at the shop just got plain unlucky with the batch of blades from the manufacturer, they are now talking to the supplier to get it sorted Watching back the video, it isn't especially clear where the blades (either type) miss their mark, but it is exactly as others have described. I can confirm that the design of the Bosch blades (metalwork wise) is as good as identical as the club supplied blades, which seems pretty standard, apart from the Bosch are a plain black finish and the club supplied are shiny silver Now if Bosch do the same blades but in chrome, maybe it's worth the shop investigating?
  22. I only use Bosch on my other vehicles these days. I tried Halfords own once on my Motorhome. I fitted them on the carpark, did a couple of test wipes then took them off and walked straight back in to the shop and got a refund..... Serves me right for trying Halfords own, let alone buying from Halfords I suppose!!! I bought the Bosch in the video from Halfords, the sales assistant asked me if I would like them fitting. I have no idea how I kept my face straight
  23. It does seem that way doesn't it!!! Maybe I'll rethink this.. Hmm...
  24. "Luckily" it was raining today, so as promised, here is a comparison of the two wiper blades. The difference is quite something... I hope the shop can get the manufacturers to sort it out. http://youtu.be/jklHKK8mKHY
