If you want a guitar body like finish use Rustin's plastic coat. Brilliant stuff. Goes a long way and is hard as nails.

How did the chassis bolts / screws end up? What did you opt for?
Drilled them out and fitted some chunky rivnuts I had from a friend that work on helicopters. Good and strong now.

Been at it for a long time. I get a bit done then something else comes up so the coupe gets put to the back of the cue as had happened since your post . Can't believe it has been 3 year's. COVID gave many people time to get their cars done. I had less time then when I was working 😂
Also I have had to do something's again because it's been such a long time since that job was done. New Rubber parts being a case in point. Many don't last even a year. 🤔
I have always said one day it will be done.........

Today’s younger generation just have different lives to when I were a boy (how old does that make me sound 🙂 )
Bought my first (car) Herald from my brother. Rebuilt it and ran it until the big ends went. Swapped the engine with a 1200 and gave it to my cousin. During that time I bought a coupe wreck to restore (still doing that) I went down the new car route with a fiat x1/9 1500 back in the 80’s. If you want the excitement of uncertainty Buy a x1/9, but it was fun to drive. At school we were sort of directed to engineering and fixing things now you just bin it and buy a new one, and off set your foot print by planting a tree. It’s cheaper that way.
There will always be someone that will want to keep old cars. And someone that will work out how to make the electronic part they need. Things move on. Our Nostalgia is not the Nostalgia of the future generations. So lets enjoy it while it lasts.

Just sold £850

Hi. got a question
how many coils are there on a early Heralds front suspention spring? I'm sure I have seen this somewhere but can't find it now.
the springs I took of my 1959 coupe had 13 coils and the new ones I bought back then ( this was 1982) had 10 or 11 coils.
I would like to keep the coupe as origanal as possible and was going to swop the old springs to new shocks. what do you think should I swop out the new for the old?
Old springs
new springs
many thanks

Just that question - How long do threads stay on the forum?
and can I bring up a list of all the threads I’ve started or commented on. I tried to check some advice that someone put on one of the threads I commented on some time ago but I am unable to find the thread now. even after using the search function. 🥺

Some more old 8mm footage from the Archive, of the time I went to the Gurston Down Hill Climb with our local TSSC area, back in 1979. several shots of club cars, only one I Know is John's Vitesse but there is another Vitesse not sure who that was. The footage did have a sound track. All be it added later and If I remember there were the names of the runners. However, unfortunately the sound track had deteriorated and was not audible so not worth including. So again naf music has been included..

Thats the main reason I haven't sold any of my herald bits. I'm not sure what I will need. only stuff that I know I will not need. gets sold, and a lot of that is bits from pauls vitesse that I still have in boxes. and we have moved house four times, carting all this stuff around. SWMBO mansions it every time. 🤐
I did sell some new old stock I bought at the beauliegh autojumble back in 83. it had a ticket on it for £4.00 I sold it for £96 on flebay 2 years ago and the purcheser paid for it to go to Australia
all good fun

That's such a shame it was written off☹️
Was it ever in the Concours at the TSSC Stafford Show?
Regards
Gary
Don't think so. not sure the year it happend. Paul was married then so would have been after 1980 and had move to Radstock so that was about 1981. here it is pictured out side his garage.
don't know when stafford shows started but this would have been 81-82 at the latest.
he bought a Triumph Acclaim after that.

Ha! How many times did I see through the video before I posted it and never noticed that! Never been the best at spelling and auto correct doesn’t make it any better.

BFM 49G (Sure I've seen this in the Concour's at Stafford in the Noughties?)
unfortunatly BFM 49G was involved in an RTC a Mini pulled out of a school enterance (not exit) in front of her resulting in being written off.
shame! we rebuilt it from a basket case .
and bear in mind that it was the 70/80's the interior was customed not very good picture but seem its the only one I've got

just put this up on youtube. transferd from some of my old super 8 footage. This was a good weekend if I remember correctly. my two cuzsons and my brother went with mun and dad caravan, towed by pauls vitesse, one evening there was a BBQ. we also brought up a barrel of beer from somerset and another group brought one from up north I think. good times.....
sorry about the music. just some random stuff as the film was silent.

I am getting double email notices when a new post is postage in a thread that I have commented on.
have it go a setting set up wrong or is that normal?

Found it.. well some of it! in some pre courier mags. turning circle and the even earlier newsletters
Wookey hole was 5th may 1979
and Gurston hill climb could be may 20th or july 22nd 1979 or even july 20th 1980
stoneleigh was the Town and Country Festival in 1979 but no sure ob the date.
quite interesting reading the old magazines
I did notice there was a mention in one of the turning circle magazines, that a film of the Wookey hole concours was showen at the clubs christmas weekend on the 3rd october. Is their a copy in the archives at the club?

Can you look through the old magazines, and see what years the annual meet was where?
been looking most of the day but can't find anything as yet.
There is a mention in the December 1980 courier but I don't recognise the story. As the bar-b-que we were at was in a field close to the site, we had brought up a barrel of beer from our local and another area brought the second barrel. and fun was had by all.....hic!
but I have found some more film of the wookey hole concours in 79 I think. not much of it though as I had to work that in the morning.

I found an old film I made back in the day of the Stoneleigh show were we stayed on site in a caravan with the club and of a Gurston hill climb. I would like to put a date to them before I post on youtube.
problem is I can't remember when is was, possible dates are any time from 1978 to 1983. When I joined the club to when I got married, I would think it would be somewhere around 1980 ish. maybe some one was there and has a better recolection then me.
here are some stills from the film if it help.
or if anyone know where I could find out the infomation that would help.
Stoneleigh show

I spent Monday gardening and the rest of the week digging out the tiniest little thorns. I was also cleaning small parts with a little wire brush on a Dremel, and got one of the metal wires in my thumb. I couldn't even see it but everytime I rubbed my thumb I felt it. Dug it out eventually.
What microscope did you get?
ordinary one was Brunel microscopes ltd one but there is no model name or number.
the one for the pc is "Bysameyee Handheld 40X-1000X" which is ok but somw time does not focus far enough away to get good dig at the splinter
sorry if we are highjacking your thread Bordfunker

No matter how much damage I've done to myself over the years, cuts bruises and breakages, scars and holes to prove it, nothing gives me more grief than the absolutely tiny thorn in my fourth finger that tormented me all night. Couldn't see it at all, every time I moved my finger it caught against something and was sooo annoying. Dug it out this morning with a pin so the thorn is gone but the finger still hurts.
Get yourself a microscope Colin. Best thing I ever done. So easy to find the smallest splinter or bit of metal from a cheap screw. Just upgraded to one that conect to a screen. Brilliant for that difficult angle.
Then plenty of neet detol

I did see one on flebay £125, I think it was newton commercials end of line sort of thing as I don't see them listed in their cataloge. but there hasn't been any listed for a while now.
but I would think they would have the patern so could make one up if needed.

Four coats. But the trick is sanding. I start with 120 to take off Amy nibs then work up to 240, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1200 than metal polish that usually dose it to a mirror finish, but you can finish off with furniture polish.
But the more coats you do the thicker the finish. However because it's a 2pack product you can put it on quite thick
Apparently the idea of working up the sanding grade is that it much easier to remove scratches from 120 with 240 than any finer grade. Seems to work I find.
