  1. Well that's a surprise. My servo applies to the whole system on mine! No wonder the rear brakes lock so easily when I tested them on a run last year. I fear the replumbing will be a bigger task than originally envisaged. Is it normal only to apply to the fronts? Suspect it will make a significant difference so I take its its recommended? Clutch pipe has a loop so I'm compliant on that at least. I almost get afraid to ask questions as I find more and more wrong with the project.

  2. Ah. After speaking to Garth then I now understand. The appature hole on the spit brackets are actually ~10 mm lower than on the gt6 but the actual bracket is about the same size. Called round suggested suppliers and the cheapest solution s to get a spit bracket and fit that. Even if I by a clutch one to match then it's less than half the price of a cylinder

     

    I'll offer the redundant one to the local group.

     

    If anyone feels like taking a photo of their bulkhead for the brake pipe runs then would appreciate it. Mine are a mess. Email is k.cpayne@blueyonder.co.uk. Ta kevin

    Yep mine is a late mk3 that I'm told should have a 0.75 bore

     

    Currently it has a plastic resovoir so suspect that it's a 0.7 on there currently.

     

    I'll try the above suppliers. Any idea what part number I'm meant to be asking for.

     

    Yes considered the option of reworking the old bracket but the flanges where it bolts to the bulkhead are a bit distorted round the holes - might order a spit replacement fron the club shop and see if that fits as well

     

    Any advice on how to get the rubber boot to fit to the bulkhead. I tried for an hour then gave up and cooked supper instead

  4. Ok so I thought I would tidy up the bulkhead and bought fron the club shop some very nice black clutch and brake master cylinder support brackets

     

    Clutch fits fine.

     

    Fitted the brake this weekend and the master cylinder fouls with the bonnet. According to Garth I had a spit bracket on before and an incorrect master cylinder and hence it works. Remedy is either new old stock master cylinder or new brackets

     

    Mine currently has a plastic fluid resovoir

     

    I can't find anyone who has the cylinders these days. Any clues where I can get one or an alternative.

  5. Pete. It's almost standard. I had to do an engine rebuild and it's got a piper cam but just their road one but I'm just nervous to get a rebuild and then find out it's not matched to the car. Hence my desire to find out what advance it will provide then I was going to ask the engine tuner if it will match

     

    I didn't really understand your first post could you please explain. The worn distributed delivered 45 to 47 and that was too much. And removing the vac advance restricted this to 33 ish but then at Tickover it ran rough. So much for a six cylinder.

  6. Yes it's definitely \----/ that I'm suffering from. I'll try and loosen bolts when on the ground and re tighten. Ride height is now an inch higher than the old one and much much stiffer spring but at least it's more level than it was

     

    It's a swing spring as well fro clarity.

     

    I'm concerned that I just have a rubbish retro one. I'll try driving with a weight in the back but sooner or later im going to have to go round a corner !

  7. Thanks for this. How do I determine what the advance retard curve will be from a rebuilt distributer. My concern is that I'll go to that expense and it still won't suit the car setup. I think that was why he was suggesting the 123 distributer alternative since you could then program it to suit the car

  8. Hi last week I took the GT6 to a rolling road setup but didn't get that far because it turned out that I had inadvertently created a problem replacing the vacuum advance pipe to the distributer which was causing too much advance (45 deg) when it should be about 33 deg max

     

    As a way forward he disconnected the pipe and blocked it to get the engine running smoother if rather uninspiring

     

    The recommended way forward was to fit a 123 distributer or equivalent. I've looked them up but they look like they only replace Lucas units where mine is a delco remy unit

     

    General timing was difficult as the rotor was very worn.

    Any suggestions how to resolve ?

  9. Hi

    I have a GT6 and Like several others I've also suffered from fuel leaking from the air filters which can't be good given the proximity of the exhaust. Also, when I drive the car, it drives fine but then occasionally misfires /misses a beat and there is a distinct whif of petrol.

     

    I've previously replaced both fuel needle valves and am in the process of replacing them again. This time I have both carbs off at the same time and have noticed a difference between them. If I could find out how to upload images to the site I would but words will have to do. On the underside of the carb inside the fuel resovoir there is a short brass tube at the base of the jet ......and on one carb there is a second short pipe , located on the periphery of the round boss that the needle is mounted in that must be for some reason. On the other carb I just have a hole, no pipe. Is this what is normal? Do I need to do anything about it?

  10. Er. The picture of the Vitesse has rather spooked me. Mine points exactly 180 deg in the opposite direction to this ! I was getting comfortable with the side to side orientation Any idea what the oem solution was since if I'm going to muck around I might as well and try and get it to look right

  11. Mine is a late mk 3 non roto. Model

     

    I'll take a look and swap the orientation round to see if that helps the clash with the bonnet

     

    A number of things on the car a a bit cobbled together so I could have brackets from one and a unit from another make. On mone the brake pipe is in mid air so suspect it's not from new

     

    Where does one get a fuel trap then please?

  12. Sorry just re read the reply and seen that it points sideways. Mine is Lockheed

     

    I presume that this explains why the bolt holes are not used on the bulkhead

     

    I've just read the manual sent by you and it appears that I'm also meant to have a non return valve in the vacuum loop. Mine doesn't have one either -does yours ? Is it critical ? Kevin

  13. I've found that the brake servo points forward and slightly upwards to such an extent that it's been rubbing on the bonnet. Looking at other installations then some go sideways. Which is correct? I think mine a proper Lockheed one. The mounting bracket holes don't match the pre drilled holes on the horizontal surface of the bulkhead

     

    Does anyone have an installation guide that I could have a copy of please to work out what it should look line and what goes where
