Hello all,
Tinkering today tuning the car and flicked on the kenlowe fan to keep it cool whilst fettling and lent on the wiper motor which was really hot. Tracked it down to one wire on the top and pulled it out which was the earth.
The fan switched off when I pulled the wire and came on again when I reconnected it.
I'm going to trace all the kenlowe wiring but any help appreciated. The fan only runs on a manual override and is not linked to any other system.
The car is a Vitesse mk1
Many thanks

Morning chaps,
Great thread by the way! I want to have a 'spare' condenser etc in case my electronic unit fails as previously discussed. I brought the car with an electronic unit (Lumination) so have no idea what i would need in regards to the back up original items. The car is a Vitesse Mk1 with a 2500TC engine (Lucas Dizzy). Im thinking a condenser and points will suffice? Im happy to get into the maintenance book and find out where they actually go in relation to the dizzy but just need advice on what i actually need to take off the electronic and replace with original points etc.
Kind regards
Rich

Hi Aiden any news on the history? I've the same problem with my vitesse mk1. It's had a 2500 TC engine placed in during its life in and around London and I've written a letter to the PO to no avail. If anyone can help the VRN is FWL 873E
Many thanks

From previous experience its better to get it sorted correctly in the first place. It shouldn't be that expense, i had all my outriggers cut off, new ones re-welded and the whole underneath waxoiled for £650 (just outside Salisbury) so a easy access job like that shouldn't be expense. Otherwise your just wasting money on another temp bodge.

Sorry to jump on this thread however i have a Luminition ignition (Vitesse MK 1 with 2500TC engine) which is great and faultless. My question is (i didnt fit it 'PO') id like to have the condensor and points as spare in the boot 'just in case' as already mentioned by Dougbgt6.
What would i need? Just the points and condenser? and would it be an easy replacement i.e. taking off the electronic items?
Thanks in advance

Hello Clive, i've pulled them apart for a clean, the needles are BDG spring loaded bias types. Interesting as the normal needles for this carb is BDB. Looking at the plugs there white so looks like its definatley running lean. Was fine after a 260 mile trip but seems to have untuned itself
Ill see how she runs tonight after work.

Sorry to jump on this thread but my Vitesse has begun to idle quite lumpy but is great on Acceleration. Once I get to'a cruise around 50+ all is well but around 40 it's hesitant and lumpy, pull the choke out a little and it's great. Could this be a possible air leak?
Car has SU6 with waxstat jet
Thanks in advance

Hi Andrew,
I replaced my rear spring on the drive with both rear wheels off and pulled it out once it was all undone. It took approx 40 mins taking it out and about 1-2 hours getting the new one in (used a jack to get the last spring eye bolt in). I got my new spring from Canleys but with the Vitesse i found the ends of the spring touched the rear brake cylinders. When i spoke to Canleys they said to take half an inch off each bent over end which worked a treat.
Make sure you put the spring in the right way round as it won't sit right on the rear diff. You'll see a locating lug that fits into the diff.

I think its great how TSSC all get together and help out fellow members. Ive learnt so much from reading all your posts and hope that all goes well James in regards to the effort you have all put in.

Richard did you loosen off the bolts etc before you attempted to ratchet the tub in? Reason I ask is my passenger door pokes out at the bottom and drivers at the front so will a attempt this also. By reading all the posts it seems as though I need to ratchet in small amounts until I've gone over its pre stressed point and hopefully returns in a better shape.
Thanks

I still have the OE one fitted, the workshop manual states 15-18lbs ft to do up does this sound correct?

Ive written to the PO to find out who fitted the tyres. Ive had the car since early last year but its had a great deal of work done to it hence why its not been on the road less for a trip to the MOT and back in Sept.
Now sat on axle stands less wheels.
As a side line has anyone ever fitted 185 x 60 x 14s on a Vitesse, I've had an offer of a nice set of minilites with these tyres on offset 22mm?
Thanks

Darren cant wait to get my minilites ordered, freelander studs arrived today

Ive quite a few interested parties in the wheels only so i'll sell them separate and keep the tyres for the minilites as you stated.
Funny the things you find after a year of working on a classic

Darren, Pete i totally agree but the rim is 14 x 6J. How can or why would someone put on a 13 inch rim on a 14 inch. Perhaps the picture can shed some light and confirm what ive got from the advert on ebay.

Yes Richard i re-read your post, i think the tyres are too small for the rim which is bizarre. I am selling them at present but after cleaning them up, removing underseal and everything else that was sprayed on by the PO did i identify the real size and make (14 x 6J Dunlop). Ive adjusted my adverts to reflect the amended size and looking at the rims they seem to poke out about 10/12 mm from where the tyre bead sits on both sides which could be due to them being 13 inch on a 14 inch rim.
Chatting to a friend who has a garage said that the 13 inch rim will sit lower in/on the wheel and still give a 13 inch profile but its not an ideal mix. Im still going to replace them with 5J x 13s like Darren but just curious of the mix of wheel/tyres on the car.

After cleaning my spokes i found the original size (14x6J) which i believe to be 14 inch rims and 6 inches wide. Funny thing is the tyres on it are 165 x 65 x 13.
Has anyone ever come across this before as i doubt the rims and tyres haven't been stamped wrong
Thanks

Electric fan wired to wiper motor???
in Electrical System

Many thanks John, I'm going to trace the wires from the switch to the fan and put in a dedicated earth if required. Weird why it's earthed to the wiper motor.
I think I may put in a relay whilst I'm at it.
