Herald Seat Frame Differences

Just a quick one, are the seat frames the same on the 1200 and 13/60? I know the covers aren’t, but can one be trimmed up as he other or vice versa? Reason being I’m considering putting Herald seats back in my 13/60 rather than the MX5 ones, and there’s a pair on eBay, but they look like they’re from different models. (Wish I’d been able to keep my originals but had no storage, actually gave them away via the previous incarnation of this forum!)

Different seat bases (base frames -  early Heralds are 803663 and early Vitesse are 806640 (I think, there are a few numbers and possibly interchangeable) while Herald 13/60 and Vitesse are part number 907354; so possibly just deeper frames for the better padding of the later cars - there seem to be no visual difference in the frames. However they'll all fit the same floor mountings as the basic fittings didn't change.

I had a quick look on eBay; if they're the black set then the very good ones (the set from Colne) appear to be from a 1200, the tatty set (the set from Ashford) has extra side padding on the seat that isn't Herald, so is presumably Vitesse.

Hi Josef,

I bought what was advertised as a 13 60, I then found that it was a 1200 with a 1360 bonnet.

The problem was that I did not realise until I purchased a trim set from Rimmers for the 13 60 that the seats were 1200, assumed that they were the same but alas no.

The main difference is the shape of the sides of the frame, inside each side of the seat cover is a piece of something like hardboard in my case shaped for the 13 60.

Fortunately I was able to make pieces to match the 1200 frames and when fitted were ok.

The other thing was on the top of the frame were two  l shaped pieces which are not on my other 13 60 so they were removed.

After a lot of fiddling I have managed to get it looking good.

Hope this helps.

Steve

I saw there were different part numbers, but thought those were for the whole assembly which is definitely different.

The covered assembly is different - different patterns on the covers; the 13/60 versions are more thickly padded so have different foams under the covers. 1200s have a wide plain area to the front of the seat; 13/60s have stitched ribs that continue from rear to front along the squab cover. I can find no difference in the seat bases however it's the rear upright frames that differ - see 1200 below and 13/60 below right.
