gear selection probs

Hi Folks,

Fired up 13/60 convertible after a 3 month lay up but cannot select any gears. Have pumped pedal & checked master cylinder, which is full & seems to be operating & no obvious leaks. Strange thing is when the engine is not running all gears can be selected. I have the use of a ramp next week end, so is there anything under the car I should be checking / ordering ?

"cannot select gears" because they graunch and grind?

Clutch seized?   After longish lay-up, may have rusted to flywheel.

 

Try starting in gear with rear axle up on stands, then apply hand brake, with clutch pedal down.

DANGER!    Select gear that will take you out of garage if it falls off stands!

 

OR, tow start with car in gear.    Do it somewhere you can drive but not stop, like an empty car park.

Drive it around with the clutch pedal down, revving and slowing repeatedly.

agree this will be the disc has stuck itself to the flywheel

 

  or  you can engage a gear , then start it up,, aim for open space  and get ready to switch off ,  can be exciting

Now showing my total ignorance of all things Triumph, only the nearside wheel moving is this the norm ?

 sure its not a reliant robin ??     if this is a rear wheel  then   sounds like the brake lining has stuck to the drum  

 

is the storeage a bit damp ???

Take a look at this - it shows how the diff works, and yes, if one wheel stays still (probably, as Pete suggests, due to rust), the other will still turn

 

 

If you watch to the end - don't do this at home!

How appropriate is that, Pete mentioned a reliant robin, my first car & driven on a full bike licence. Then the excellent video clip, with the bikes. Well wheel off over the weekend, now what did i do with that big hammer ??
