Jaffa
Help please. Noticed that the column switches rotate on the column. The top part of the steering column outer (to which the column switches are fitted) is loose and separate from the lower part which is held in place by the upper clamp under the dash. The diagram in the manual seems to show the outer column as one part. Is my column outer broken or is there a joint in the outer column that has come apart? Pete Lewis
The switch end has to be seperate but should be made up, as an assembly Dont remember if the joint is weld or whatever but I would suggest drill and tap with short setscrews in the tube to co join the 2 parts As a repair Pete
Jaffa
Thanks Pete, that's what I thought it looked like but wanted to be sure before removing the column to make a repair.
Ben Caswell
The belled end that holds the switches is spot welded(X4) to the column tube just above the top bush.
Jaffa
Thanks Ben. I guess the welds have broken. Hopefully I'll be able to make a repair. Just wanted to know if it was possible to repair or if this was likely to mean a replacement column before I started to take it off the car.
