Terrible stuff once it starts to go but there's no real alternative; I've not read of anyone trying to plastic coat it or rebuild the original covering. Many owners just remove it all and paint the bare metal underneath. Some day I'll experiment with different alternative coatings to see what looks good, but for the moment it's Magnolia Hammerite as a fairly close match to the original.

I Removed the coating on mine with an old wood chisel, it took an age, especially on the two smaller pieces near the 'B' Posts!

Then I had it coated in a very similar finish by a local Powder Coating specialist, it looked very similar to the original finish, Ill see if I can find some Photo's?

The Coating looks much like the original, a wrinkle type finish and was lasting well the last time I saw the car in September?

I can't remember how much tbh, but it wasn't a fortune

Dumelows are still in Business 01283 564292 but are not exactly local to you.

Thanks for the kind words on the Vitesse, it lives in Gloucestershire now and took me 4 Years to restore and several thousand pounds on parts too.

If you call Pete at Dumelow's he may be able to tell you what the coating is and then you could try someone locally?

He's recently blasted and coated an old 60's Radio surround for my Sunbeam and finished it in Satin Black wrinkle type finish, only charged me a Tenner😉

Another pic below of the Vitesse when sold in 2015
