Gengis Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 Ok Im very confused. Ive been restoring a mk2 Vitesse and it’s all up and running and fine done around 155 miles. I’ve wanted to replace the studs for longer ones for alloy wheels. I brought the correct tool to remove the hubs, fitted everything back together drove down the road and now have a wheel bearing noise from N/S. Striped it out again to find the inner bearing damaged. My question is do all mk2 Vitesse haves spacer between the 2 bearings as I’m sure when I originally striped car when I restored it there were non. And I’ve had know problems until now when I’ve taken it apart to change the studs.
Pete Lewis Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 Mk2 is rotoflex there are certainly spacers and shims between the two brgs, to control the end float , if they are missing you can seriously over tighten the hub nut and pre load the bearings , death is quick . as you have found spacer shims are available from e bay , with more range of thickness than most retail suppliers there is a spacer tube and then shims to adjust the end float.
