Vitesse 1966 engine number and commission plate explained

Hi all

hope everyone is ok and enjoying your classic cars.

i need help in understanding the plate with HB ending in DL and codes for paint and commissions number? Also the HB code on the engine and ending in HE .. !!!! Can’t seem too find proper explanation on the great World Wide Web!!??

Hello Mark,

DL = saloon on manufacture

HE = high compression

HB = factory code for 1600 Vitesse up to 09/1966

how do the numbers correspond between the letters on the engine also my paint no is 35 ? Not listed on the list provided ..

35 is olive green....

The paint code 35 colour is Olive. The commission plate number will be near the engine number but not identical. This is because more engines were produced than cars for spares etc. On a Vitesse 6 both the body and engine will be have a prefix of HB. Your commission number looks as it may have been built late 1965, early 1966.
