After making the front carb a whole turn richer it would run without choke, but pretty rough. Took her out for a few miles and looked at the plugs 1 & 4 which were both white. Richened both carbs another 2 flats, drove again & better, but still weak. Another 2 flats & plug colour looks good & car running well.

I worked out that at room temp, the wax capsule in the rear carb was about 1mm thinner than the 2 pennies & the one from the front carb about 2.5mm. I reckon the amount I had to turn the mixture nuts to get back to normal is probably consistent with this difference.

Just a (hopefully🤞) final update to this thread.

Despite all the previous actions taken I was still getting some popping on the overun, although it was greatly improved.

However, as stated on another thread, I found my vacuum advance was seized and after replacing it the popping has now stopped altogether.

Makes sense I suppose 🤔. Just wish I had thought about it earlier.
