AlanT
Hi All, Ive noticed slight dampness down the outside of the wax stat jets after shutting down my Spit 1500 engine. The carbs haven’t seen action for 20 years but I did clean / strip them thoroughly . Thoughts? I’m thinking new jets and needles. It’s enough to smell, not drip! Pete Lewis
there is no seal between jet tube and the adjusting holder so any fuel in the carb throat can run down the jet do the 2p mod prise the thin cap off the bottom of the jet remove the wax capsule , keep the small metal spacer add two 1p peices refit/crimp the retaining cap then no more wax stat irregularities pete
AlanT
Thanks Pete. So what you’re saying is that it’s normal? Does seem a tiny amount. I’ll prob leave the waxstats on for the moment having owned a 9 year old Spit (basket case) when I was about 20! The one thing that did run well was the engine! Pete Lewis
yes a bit of misting is not unusual if you disconnect the choke levers the jet tube is a loose fit in the holder it just pulls out it moves up/down easy every time you use choke its just a brass tube in a brass fitting hole no seals at all vacuum in the carb throat stops any real leakage spilling down the jet tube clearance Pete
