PhilJ1962
I am currently in the process of recondiitoning a 2500 PI engine, eventually to fit into my GT6, The head has gone off for skimming, new unleaded valve seats, and porting and polishing. My concerns are with the bottom end. After i took the sump off and had a look at the big ends. I noticed that there is some lateral movement of each con rod along the crankshaft. Is this normal or is it something I should be worried about. The workshop manual doesn't mention anything about this just the overall crankshaft end float. thescrapman
I think that is OK, but await further answers
dougbgt6
There should be some lateral movement to allow for inevitable crank end float. When the crank moves forwards and backwards, if there is no lateral movement on the con rods they will lean forwards and backwards, wearing the big ends, the crank and little ends. So, yes there should be a little lateral movement.
