Just assembling the new vertical link , new trunnion , I filled the trunnion about 1/3rd with EP90 added the link and this filled the trunnion with some overflow . The Trunnion bush kit - does this need any lubrication ? apart from bolt
Thanks in advance

Hello.
Out of interest, now that you have removed the old water pump, have you or are you intending to replace the coolant pipe that runs under the manifolds & along side the engine block ??
If you have not, may I suggest replacing it with a s/s item including olive & new nut.
Once those pipes are disturbed it will more than likely leak.
Got mine from Canleys.
Well worth doing - in fact critical !!
Just a thought.
Richard.
Hi Richard - My manifold on my Vitesse Mk2 doesnt have the coolant pipe as you described - Not sure what it came off - The carbs are CDSE's

this is the old compromise or utopia with any rebuild,
the problem is the corrosion starts a crack which soon emanates into a total break off
if youre after not having to look again for a good few years i would change it
keep the reservoir topped up with ep90 or ep140 to keep the water at bay, the seals are a bit simple and not very effective
some add a greaser to top up the oil levels easily with grease gun filed with oil others prefer to re fit the plugs ...down to prefference
but keep em oiled not greased
Pete
I will clean up the corrosion to see the extent though will probably purchase a new one just to be safe - many thanks for the tips , very much appreciated - NB I did check the nuts on the lower Wishbone through bolts and all fine - thanks again

you could try skillshack.co.uk , they have welding videos , though haven't seen this oneThanks John.
We have a welders and I have looked into local courses but being on the isle of wight we are limited for courses like that. We had the outrigger repaired by a family member, but i will start practicing as its a skill i want to learn.

Can't use footwell as passenger footwell has a box section which can be used for books , CDs etc . So rear parcel shelf is the preferred solution . On checking I noticed the metal retainers , what are they for ?I favour the footwell method too, and made my own panels from hardboard covered in black carpet, secured with screws and brass cup washers. They look a lot better than the millboard. In the end I did not need to put the speakers there after all, because my MX5 seats have them in the headrests, which is handy on a convertible. Maplin online are a good source of speakers.

Just purchased a vitesse mk2 1969 saloon . There is a stereo system fitted in the glove compartment and plan to keep. The problem are the speakers which are currently fitted across the rear seat storage units and look awful
Where should the speakers be fitted and which speakers are considered suitable
Thanks in advance

Thanks for heads up re the TSSC shop , just rang and they do offer a recore service at £160 ( not sure if this includes redelivery ) This is the cheapest Ive found even with delivery to them . I did find Honda Civic alloy radiators at £62 deld on Ebay but the side brackets would need fabricating in ally and tig welded which I cant do . Incidently next best price was £210 which includes collection and redelivery - this is for a Vitesse 2 litre - Thanks again - I incorrectly assumed the catalog was all they did
-
Thanks for contact , I'll give them a call
Best regards

Thanks for input and the driving in 4th on a motorway makes sense so looks like overdrive is the way forward.Check out exactly what you do need to convert to OD, it is quite a list if sourcing parts individually.
You can buy a complete conversion reconditioned, but sit down when you get a price!
Used conversions do turn up, but again check what you get and what is needed to complete the conversion.
All said and done, I have driven long distances without OD, but at a steady 60mph+ the od is a lovely addition and just feels better. Compare it to driving along the motorway in 4th rather than 5th in a modern car.
If you intend mainly shorter drives and quieter/slower roads, I wouldn't worry so much.

Found the page using my iPad , no issuesMany thanks
It's decision time or have I got enough cash . I can change a gearbox though might have to farm out overdrive conversion

Hi,
I don't know why that link isn't working. Try searching: Minty Lamb Ratios
It's worth a go.
Tom
Hi Tom - All Minty Lamb page have a McAfee warning
-
Hi Bivvyman,
A non-overdrive Vitesse on standard rims and 155-tyres does 17.4mph per 1000 revs in top gear.
This is very low geared compared to a modern car (my modern car runs at about 35mph per 1000 revs) and it will be far from a relaxed motorway-cruiser.
Overdrive will improve things to just shy of 22mph per 1000 revs.
Have a look at this website as it explains the effects of diff ration and tyre sizes: http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/gearspeed/
Let us know what you decide to do.
Tom
Hi Tom , thanks for reply and beginning to understand the issue - I tried the link and got a Mcaffe Warning not to proceed. Are there any other sites that would help
Best regards

Hi just purchased a 1969 Vitesse Saloon MK 2 no overdrive
One of the known issues is a noisy gearbox - In general terms is replacing with overdrive worth the extra cost ?
What would be a comfortable cruising speed with a replacement non overdrive gearbox ?
What would be a comfortable cruising speed with a replacement overdrive gearbox ?
Thanks in advance for any input
How much is this Spitfire worth?
