Another posting from the Mini forum. This features a Spitfire towards the end. https://youtu.be/daVDrGsaDME Peter
  3. The colour in the Spitfire colours on the TR link, is the nearest to the club paint. The Stanley screwdrive is more like the paint mixed locally. Which is right? I guess that the only practical answer is to buy sufficient in one go. I spoke to the local supplier and he says he can make a better match if he has a sample to work from.
  4. Thanks, lets see if it works Peter
  5. How do I get the bit under my name that gives my details - car etc. ? Peter
  6. My Mk3 is Valencia Blue. I bought some from the club shop, it was a very good match to what was left inside wings etc. Then I had a local car paint company mix me some more and that came out noticeably more blue. The tints for the mix came from their computer listing for Valencia Blue. I ought to have taken it back, at some point I intend to get more from the club and respray wrong shade. The correct shade - difficult to describe in words - but is a mid blue with a slight greeny tinge.

    Quick Respray

Not sure whether to put this under General or Bodywork. Someone on the Mini forum unearthed this video. I thought it might amuse. Peter https://youtu.be/UeGPt6RgjZI
  8. Their web site is working this morning 8.00
  9. The V5C for my 1969 Mk3, Model: 'Spitfire', body type: 'Sports'
  10. Are the discs corroded? I had similar symptoms on my everyday car (Suzuki Jimny), 1 disc quite rough even though run out was OK. Fitted 2 new discs and cured.
  11. Hernia op yesterday. No driving for a tleast a week and Monday is a Bank Holiday

  12. My drive-shafts check out. One day when I've nothing better to do I'll turn the spring round and see the camber angle changes side.
  13. I've been meaning to post on a similar subject. Over the winter I fitted a new rear spring to my Mk3 Spit. I've now got excessive (over 3 deg : max reading on Gunson gauge) camber on the nearside wheel. Perhaps one of our experts can help us both.
  14. Not quite on subject, but for general oil spills - Cat Litter is great. I had a part time job with a well known supermarket, and they use it for spilt cooking oil and I can tell you a whole bottle of that makes one hell of a mess.
  15. Thanks I thought that was the case. Peter
  16. I'm sure I've seen somewhere that it is OK to use GL5 oil for the front trunnions. I think it was something to do with them not getting hot like a gear box or diff. Can anyone confirm this? I've a can of EP90 GL5 on the shelf and being somewhat a miser I'd like to use it up. Peter
  17. What grease to use on wire wheel adaptors? The workshop manual calls for P.B.C. grease (available from Triumph dealers) Is normal Multi-purpose OK ? Peter
  18. Try Halfords own brand. I've found them quite good. Reasonable price and guarantee. Also our local Halfords stock a good range (I guess they all do) if you need one in a hurry. One to suit a Spitfire = £39.99 with 3 year warranty. Peter
  19. The parts book for the Mk3, shows visors fitted upto Comm. No. FD19999 (L.H.S) and approx. FD13980 (R.H.S.). then 'fitted to all USA vehicles and to Special Order other Countries' I'll post a photo of the whole visor later.
  20. I bought the car in 2000 (its taken this long to get back on the road). The visors and mirror are as it was. The car came with a works hardtop and no hood, frame or fittings. Wether or not it was always like that I don't know. I think I've seen somewhere that it could be supplied as a hardtop. I ought to get the Heritage Certificate - it might tell me.
  21. Difficult to show in photo. But first shows visor in front of mirror, the second - behind. I have to twist the mirror to achieve this.
  22. I'll do a picture tomorrow - it's toooooooo cold in the garage tonight.
  23. On my Mk 3 Spitfire the driver's sun visor conflicts with rear view mirror. That is when I flip the visor down, I have to move the mirror out of the way. Is this normal? I believe sun visors were an optional extra on the Mk3.
  24. I am very disappointed with the club shop hood for my Mk 3. I believe they are from Don Hoods, The side flaps inside the windows are not long enough to reach the windscreen by about an inch. I've reported this to Garth. Perhaps the Mk IVs are better. Peter
