  1. Thanks for the info ref the spherical post Pete. Just measured mine and it was 14.5mm, so looks like I need to put 4mm worth of washers under it. Just to check Pete, before I get the persuader out, it is a press in fitting into the alloy Clutch housing and can be tapped out? Thanks. Pat
  2. Thanks Pete and GT6M, looks like it will be the locktite goo or high temp. Silicon. Thanks Pete I will also check the diameter of the withdraw bearing and do as you say if it is worn. Someone had put the clutch operating rod in the wrong way round consequently the domed recess in the operating arm was cracked. Tried out my new mig welder on the back of it and it's fixed now. I wonder how long the car had been driven like that to crack the housing. I wonder how many more are driving around like that!
  3. Hi All, when my Vitesse gearbox comes back from Mike Papworth after it's rebuild I will need to bolt the clutch housing to it. Not forgetting the copper washer on the lower bolt what do members think about gaskets for this? I do have the correct paper one but for a belt and braces fix, I wonder if I should also coat the mating surfaces with blue Hylomar, an old favourite. It would seem that some people also use a silicone sealant instead of paper gaskets, what are the words of wisdom from experienced members? Thanks. Pat
  4. Agree with you. The Wanner is the best and I've just bought another one from e bay, its old but it works great, only cost a tenner and more importantly it came with a flexible connector. I will keep this one for oil only, but will empty the oil out of it after I've used it.
  5. Thanks Pete, he did change the gearbox, but the replacement one is noisy in 1st, second, and 3rd and it leaks from the clutch to gearbox joint. If he was pushed for time the chances are that he may have forgotten the copper washer. All will be revealed next month when I take the box out.
  6. Thanks Pete, very good advice as usual. I think that I will take it out and take it up to Mike Papworth as it is also very noisy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Then I will do and lie down in a darkened room when i think about the cost!
  7. Thanks Clive, by a couple of bars, do you mean " yorkie " bars for strength!?
  8. Hi Pete, I will have to remove the gearbox from the Vitesse as it's leaking oil badly from the front face where it joins the bell housing. Can the gearbox ( overdrive ) be removed from below? I have access to a two post garage lift and a helper. With my back and hip I don't fancy try ing to lift it out. Thanks. pat
  9. Thanks for checking the cars out Doug, how sad, but there's probably many more members on this forum who also have tears in their eyes when they remember one that has gone to that great breakers yard in the sky!
  10. Hi everyone, just to say hello. My names Pat and I now live in sunny Dorset. I joined the TSCC 30+ years ago when we bought our first triumph Herald 1250, EJA 835C, a wedgwood blue convertible also known to the family as " Bessie ", she served us long and well and both my sons who were toddlers when we bought her second hand, learnt to drive on her. I restored a 1250 saloon chassis off which took a long long time and then sold her to an enthusiast reg RFS 83H, I wonder where both cars are now? I then had a long term love hate affair with Lotus ( lots of trouble usually serious ) but have now regained consciousness and returned to my first love Triumphs. Having had and loved Heralds, but always fancied a Vitesse, i took the plunge and bought a 2 litre Mk2 with the expert help of Pete Lewis, so thank you again Pete, where would the club be without experts like Pete and others on this forum. As I start to get to grips with the Vitesse I'm sure there will be many pleas for help from the forum, so thank you all in advance. Must go now and gaze with wonder at the straight six engine, Cheers Pat
