  1. Update new gaskets on carb fires up and runs nice of course now because car is running properly have noticed a small blow/leak in back box so was thinking i can go and get a back box for about £50 or spend £180 plus VAT and get a all new stainless steel exhaust what you guys think bear in mind i only paid £500 for the car and so far have probably spend about another £400 with brakes calipers discs etc.thanks for looking
  2. Update took off the carb and the piston was seized so took it into work stripped it down cleaned it just waiting on new gaskets then should be good to go .
  3. Hi already sorting the timing had a mobile mechanic sort it as I didn't have a timing light or the skill to set timing .so I think k it is either carb related or worse bad compression
  4. Tank was emptied and fresh petrol added but I will take off carb and try and use air to blow any debris if any out see if it makes any difference
  5. Thanks for replies not sure how car run before parts changed over as car has been sorn since 1994 i got it from a guy who had it in his garage for 7 years so i changed over distribution system for new powerspark also changed airfiler oil filter new oil etc before even starting the car buti didnt do anything to carburetor as the guy had said it was efurbished by him of courde not sure when that was so is it possible it might be sticking cause it hasn't been used
  6. Hi so got my wee Herald started took it out for a test drive and as my father would have put it .jeeze couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. No i have replaced old distributor with a new powerspark have new spark plugs new htc silcon leads .Car starts in the button but revs very lumpy got one of those mobile mechanics he seems to think it is a misfire caused by a bad ignition coil or lose of compression. Question is having changed over the distributor and the previous owner saying carb had been refurb is there another reason why car starts but wont rev and seems to misfire.Any help grateful accepted. Thanks for looking Paul.ps its a 1360 with a zenith stromberg 150 cd carburetor
  7. Not really sure might be when the guy in my work rebuilt it he didnt lubricate the seals using brake fluid or might be seal at the end where the little plastic part is wasnt seated correctly anyway its all right now .
  8. Latest update took off the brake master cylinder strip it down checked all the seals rebuild it back on the car this morning and result it all works brakes are blead so all i need to do is get it MOT happy days ahead cant wait to get her on the road where she belongs thanks for all the advice.
  9. Ok that sounds like the culprit right enough i didnt reseal it myself a guy in the work did so he might have not place seal in correctly sounds like an easy fix if i can take it back off and just recheck the seals are all placed in the right way thanks for the advice. keep you updated
  10. Update sorted out master cylinder with new seals push rod goes in and out freely so putit back on car filled reservoir with fresh new dot4 and nothing happened. So took off the pipe connected to cylinder when I press on brake pedal almost no fluid comes out i would have thought that it would come out quite fast as the pipe is disconnected. Any theory's? Could it be the spring or maybe the seals not placed correctly any ideas much appreciated
  11. Update took off brake master cylinder and indeed it has a split in the rubber and is full of gunk so push rod seized took it into worked put it in a sonic bath push rid now free plus cylinder looks brand new just waiting on rebuild kit swap over for new seals and hopefully its good to go .
  12. Thanks for the advice will try over weekend and see what it could be guy in my work has a spitfire he did say that perhaps i might need to buy a refurb kit for master cylinder as it might have a bit of corrosion on push rod as the car has been unused for so long
  13. The car was bought by me in November havent be sorn for about 20 years so no all newparts ie disc calipers drums pads shoes have been put on car did try with bleed nipple out thinking blockeage but made no difference.
  14. Bleed nipple is opened but when you press down on brake pedal nothing happens as it should.ie it should push out air then brake fluid but it doesnt im thinking it might be the push rod is sticking ?.as for bolts i just tried again till i got them loose never give up as they say.
  15. Well just to update i now have sorted out problem with the sheared bolts and have got the caliper on the car .Put in fresh brake fluid andnotjing happens the pedal goes down less than an jnch but has no resistant fluid doesnt go down any from main reservoir .So any ideas what can be the problem? Thanks for looking regards Paul
  16. Yeah i have put plenty of penetrating oil on all of them left it for a few days i dont access to torch to heat it up not enough of the bolts perturbing to get a grip on them was hoping to drill out to near enough the size then using a sharp small chisel just hammer out any remaining bits and hopefully it wont damage the threads .
  17. Hello i have checked forums but havent seen anyone with a similar problem. While changing over the cailpers on the drivers side the two mounting bolts have sheared and are now stuck in the bracket .I thought i could drill out the old sheard bolts and replace with new ones .But this isnt as easy as first thought i know if can get off the old bracket i can easily sort out the problem in work.So this is my probelm car has been off road since the 90's. Most of the bolts connected to the bracket look rusty and i dont want to further add to the problem by breaking more bolts or nuts so is it possible to do this without taking off the bracket ?Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks for looking... Paul should add its a herald 1360 im working on
  18. Thanks for the welcome was having a look at forums lots of information im sure will prove invaluable.
  19. Hello just joined and thought i would introduced myself .And my little Herald 1360 Lotti .I bought Lotti about 7 weeks ago she has been sorn since the early 90's .But after a few weeks of ordering new bits she is running and just waiting on her front brakes to be swapped over bleed the system and hopefully get her passed for a new MOT.She isn't perfect but seems to be all original solid underneath no signs of previous repairs.Seems to start ok but doesn't idle thst good im sure it just needs setup correctly. Hope to be at the next owners club meeting in Glasgow my home town .If anyone is from Glasgow or near that and has more information in regards to the meetings please let me know. Looking forward to meeting and chatting to fellow members. Will upload pictures of Lotti as soon as i can work out how to lol
