Thinking this problem is a bad earth but i could be wrong as all other electrics are working as they should .out for drive the other evening and noticed the passenger side headlight is out so had look and for peace of mind changed it so again light wouldnt come on but it does if i put full beams on so anyone have an idea why this would happen. Hi quick question i have a 1976 spitfire went to take it out last week and when going to start it only made a clicking sound so figured out it was starter motor installed new one .then while out yesterday car did same thing wouldnt start only clicking noise manged to get a push start and got home.so is this a sticking solenoid or perhaps a bad earth ? .have a had a few electrical problems like lights only work one side unless i put on high beam ?also horn works sometimes had been suggested it maybe be bad earth .thanks for looking regards Paul
  4. Battery level is fine new battery fitted last month yeah my thinking was the flasher unit why i asked if you need to remove dash but if i can access tjis eithout removal then all the better thanks for replies

Hi just a quick question here have a slight problem with my indicators they will work fine all four lights then say after five minutes of driving they will come on but not flash if i put hazards on they all flash so thinking its the switch behind the dash so do i need to remove the dash in order to replace this or can i get access without removing the dash car is a 1976 spitfire .thanks for looking and your time .regards Paul

  8. So the pipe should go from each carb and then join in the middle to then go to the rocker cover so its all wrong then

  14. Im not even sure if the carbs are HS2 or HS4 but all i no is they were swapped over from single carb also i thought you could run a 1500 with HS2 it just wouldnt give as much at the top end then again not everthing you read on the Internet is always true

Will i know my mate who did the work in his garage used a timming gun and said it was spot on so that could be it i did buy electronic ignition but my mate didnt know hiw to fit it so i said to leave it and i would hsve a look later on as i just wanted car back on the road rather than sitting in his garage

Actuallywhen i got the car it had a single carb the twibs had been taken off as the guy thought it saved money but i got the twins when buying the car and swapped them over i was unaware there woukd be a diffirence or that much if a difference between them ? But i havent been driving for very long about 4 years so if it does make a difference maybe that is why the car has a slight misfire when pulling away

  19. Not sure about make of plugs will have a lokk tomorrow was out today same bit of a misfire then once up in third or forth seems to settle down and go along nicely but will check plugs and see if mixture is lean should be able to tell from plugs thanks for all the advice will keep you updated

Hi so here is my problem i have swapped out old engine for a reconditioned one .car starts and runs have been out on the motorway but when accelerated away the car seens to have a misfire once car is in third gear or forth its fine .while sitting in traffic slight fluctuation on the idle dropping from 900 rpm to 500rpm then back up other than that as i said it starts and drives.im thinking electrical? But i know that i have new battery new plugs,leads the distributor and coil are unchanged. So if anyone can shed light on this and timming was done by guy who swapped out engine .thanks for looking regards Paul

    Engine swap

    I have two engines the original engine was not a 1500 but a 1300 I had the head rebuilt but it then seem to have problems with the bores now rather than spend money on a set of pistons and rings I got a 1500 engine which the guy said he had stripped rebuilt with new gaskets at 150 it seemed the better choice. But after getting the engines swapped out it still seems to have problems.
