  1. Hey Pete Can't seem to attach a pic to a private message - but - is THIS the spacer you are referring to? It seemed part of the thermostat but should I have a go at removing it...!
  2. Hi Thanks York - I was thinking that about the thickness of the coins, but then decided that I had screwed the jet up much higher trying to get a weaker mix than the thickness of the thermostat anyway... I don't suppose you have the number of a weaker needle I could try? P
  3. Hi I have checked the forum but anyone any ideas on the following: 1979 Spitfire with twin HS4's. They are the waxstat type and as I was having a lot of problems with idle speed I decided I'd do the usual trick of removing the thermostat in the jet - replaced with 2x 1p coins as recommended by many.... I expected to have to readjust the mix but I cannot get anything but a rich mixture on a Colourtune - the jets are screwed almost right up. Rather stupidly I didn't try checking the mixture before I took out the thermostat but I'm sure it was too rich before anyway. Rather than put the whole lot back just as a check - any ideas??? Thanks Pete
  4. Hi all Having an awful struggle trying to get a nice new burr walnut dash panel for the GT6... I get no response from a company called "Classical Dash" who don't appear interested, and now Rimmer, who had one on back order, have told me they can't get one (assume they get theirs from CD...) Are there any other places/options? Thanks Pete
  5. Hi all Thought you might be interested in the solution... (sorry if this is getting TOO boring now) The replacement clip and bush I got from Rimmers had too shallow a neck - see photo 1. Easiest way was to grind off a bit of the handle where the bush plugs - hope it hasn't weakened it, don't think so. Pic 2 shows a nice fitment... Time for a cup of tea. Thank you all for your interest... hope this may help someone! Pete
  6. Do you know - this is probably the best bet... Triumph should have done it in the first place...
  7. Anyone with a bright idea...? I'm rebuilding the door which involves refitting the two long thin control rods that operate the door handle to lock mechanism. At the handle end one control rod has a tiny plastic bush with a metal clip that fits in a hole in the chrome handle - arrowed in red. (keep up..!) I bought a new clip (inset in pic) from Rimmers but I cannot get the rod to fit into the bush when the bush is pressed into the hole in the handle... I know it sounds like something I should be able to get round but if I don't get this right the rod springs out of the handle and you can't open the door... Anyone been there????
  8. Hi all Anyone know anything about the company "Classical Dash"...? I have been wanting to get a walnut veneered dash they do but it seems impossible to get in contact with them. No replies from emails or phone calls. Anyone know of any other company that does good veneered dash panels? Pete
  9. Hi Having removed the entire front 1/4 light for restoration (GT6 Mk3) I have now gone and snapped the stud holding the adjustment spring on the bottom of the swivel - can't find a replacement anywhere. Any ideas? I thought I might drill the thing out and make up a bolt somehow....?
  10. Hi Anyone any ideas on this. I have bought a couple of door cards for my GT6 from Rimmers - colour is "Chestnut". It's actually a very good match and I now want a metre or so off a roll for bits here and there... Rimmers won't tell me who their supplier is and want £63 a metre to supply me. This is over 5 times what it retails for normally - I understand their reluctance to let me by-pass them but that is a hideous mark up. Anyone know where they get it from?
  11. Hi all I am intending to scrap the night dimming relay (yellow Lucas relay fixed inside rear wing). Easy enough to join up the same coloured wires but do I just blank off the red feed and the black earth wires or should they be doing something even if there is no relay any more...? Thanks Pete
  12. I've had the petrol tank out of the GT6 and was wondering what your views are on layering some sound deadening material (felt/Dynamat) under it before I replace it...? Cheers Pete
  13. Sorry to be a clod but does anyone know where on earth these seals go??? Shown to fit somewhere on the wheel arch under the bonnet (GT6 Mk3) - but where exactly and how do they fit on? Ta
  14. Just out of interest were the engine bay valences standard or a factory option or are they all aftermarket? P
  15. Yes - I think I'll do that - many thanks both!
  16. Hi I am wanting to make the radiator in the GT6 look half decent - it's out on the bench and has been flushed through etc. It is all in good condition with no leaks but the outside is not pretty. Is it ok to "sand" blast it with aluminium oxide powder (100 grit) or is that going to wreck the fins immediately? Plan is then to spray paint it with black gloss high temp paint - but not the fins...? Advice welcome...!!! Thanks Pete
  17. Thanks so much for all replies - I'm chewing this over now before I decide...! In my ignorance I thought the handles were metal...?!
  18. Sorry if this has been done before - I had a look on the forum. A certain parts company is offering a pair of new chromed outside door handles/locks for £156 a pair. (Mk.3 GT6) I vaguely recall hearing once that these aftermarket handles are not good quality and can snap. Anyone with experience? Would it be better to rechrome the originals? Thanks P
  19. As per subject - is it worth spending extra on Dynamat under the new carpets or is it a waste - is underfelt just as good in a GT6...? Pete
  20. and i've found this at Coverdale - top of the range carpet but the colour is right... http://www.carcarpets.co.uk/triumph--gt6-mk-iii-1970-to-1973-non-rotoflex-carpet-set---kensington-luxury-wool-range-44768-p.asp (click down to Chestnut)
  21. Doug So what have I been sent then...? I enquired at Newtons and they sent me a pdf which includes this - hope you can see it. It SEEMS to be saying there is a leather cover set in Chestnut for the 190-71 Mark 3 (part number SC2054C) which is the same as Mk 3 Feb. 1973 onwards (UK and USA).
  22. Beginning to realise what others are saying regarding the colour Chestnut as being the Holy Grail for my GT6 I'm retrimming the entire interior but know I will struggle to match this colour. I bought what was described as "Chestnut" window/door seals (rubber with furry edges) from Rimmers but when they arrived they were called "brown" on the packet and didn't match whatsoever. Returned. Alternative is to go over to the easy answer and use black - except I have the rear seat conversion so that would need to be changed too. I see you can now order Chestnut leather covers from Newton and supposedly Chestnut door cards from rimmers. Are these accurate? Carpet shouldn't be a problem as Newton sent me samples and one is very close. Shame really as I love the Chestnut with Mimosa... Just wondered if anyone has any ideas? Pete
