  1. Dave did you have to unseize the bolt through the rear trunnion - Ive just done the drivers side and it was really easy and have started the passenger side and its proving to be a nightmare - the bolts all seem in very poor condition and badly chewed, Ive managed to free the shock absorber and remove, the spring bolt is now free, however the tie bars bolts and the rear trunnion are another matter so any tips gratefully received. Im busy dousing the bolts and nuts with penetrating oil but Im not hopeful.

Ive moved this to the correct thread.

  3. The general area looked clean, the PO had had work done on the car and in fairness the hose looked nearly new so at a guess I’d say the tank had been out. I wanted to check as the pump had a fair bid of crud in it.

  4. I ordered a borescope of eBay and it was a complete disaster so ordered a replacement from euro car parts and it works fairly well, still getting to grips with directing the camera to the right place but picture quality seems ok. Used it to verify inside that the inside of the tank was clean, it is surprisingly clean with only small patches of rust, I certainly won’t be rushing to remove the tank, so all in all to me it was worth the £10.

  5. All fuel hose now replaced with Gates Barricade R14, there were 3 pieces of hose all in a similar condition to the previous photo, the easy to get to / visible bits had been swapped.

Does anyone know if you can just buy the glass bowl filter rubber gasket?

  6. Just logged on to rimmers to order the flexi pipe from the airfilter box for the vitesse (swap back to stardard air filters) and I was shocked at the price each - any one recommend a different pipe? (could I use fish pond hose?) Or are they actually required?

How are they fixed at the front - I'd thought of cable tying to engine valance or trying to get the spitfire hose clip.

  7. Thanks both, I couldn’t find anywhere that clarified the valve numbers but that explanation makes it very clear and logical (and annoyingly obvious when you are stood looking at the engine!) I’ll have a re-check and adjust as necessary to make sure.

  8. I want to check / adjust the inlet and exhaust valve settings. I believe the car has a piper cam 2397 fitted. Am I correct in think that rocker 1,3,5,7, 9 and 11 (inlet) should be gapped to 12 thou and all even rockers should be gapped to 14 thou. Ive checked the settings currently and theyre all more like 10 thou.

  9. The weather was ok today so I thought I’d start replacing the fuel pipe, check the carb float chambers and the fuel pump. Removed quite a bit of crud from the fuel pump, the float chambers were clean and replaced a couple of pieces of rubber fuel pipe. One piece was fine just wrong grade however the other piece was bad. I need to check the other bits now!

  10. The car is a bit rustier than the photos suggest but seems fairly genuine, good mot history etc but I couldn’t get to an acceptable price. I’d have gone to 2.5k but that was my limit. I will continue the search!

  11. Can anyone recommend a cheap borescope for iPad as most seem to be Android ? I’m thinking it’d be useful for seeing into those hard to reach places - my gearbox still has a odd drip from somewhere, with a borescope I could in theory look at the gearbox from the oil filler hatch in the tunnel in the vain hope of spotting the leak. I could also see inside the petrol tank without messing with the sender unit etc.

I know of a better one locally to me ( but not Cornwall!) that is about £4K

    Is it advertised anywhere?

The one in Cornwall is local and the advert comes across honest and hes answered my queries - Ive had a quote for a new hood (I will never fit one myself again!) but Im unsure that the chap will lower the price to a more realistic value, there have been a few on ebay struggle to get to 3k and they look better in the photos.

  13. Two lidls visited to try and get the battery impact wrench - none in stock but plenty of the mains powered ones. Thought Id see what was available on eBay and it seems the lidl wrench is being resold at nearly £100 each. Ill wait till next time.

  14. I thought it looked fairly original, the hood needs replacing and in my mind that comes of the asking price, I’m planning to go and see it at the weekend but then I started scanning eBay etc to see what current prices are and that really throws up doubts on values, they’re all over the place.

  15. Im thinking of buying a second triumph, a spitfire for every day use, it will also be the car my wife would drive (the vitesse is too heavy).

The car will live outside so it gets used.

Ive seen a car advertised on ebay, its local to me so I am going to look at it over the weekend. Ive been checking what the prices are like as the vender is asking £3500,  its a MkIV 1300, MOT history looks good but the car needs some tidying. Gut feeling Id say the car is A2 which means against the TSSC agreed value schedule its too much, however asking prices seem to vary wildly.

Any advice on where to get a reliable guide.

  16. I need to apply some waxoyl or similar wax and under seal / Shultz as per a previous post, the S50 was recommended and the reviews are good, my concern is the car has been treated in the past with various treatments (largely unknown by POS), are they all compatible or do you run the risk of a reaction between the various products
