  1. Yea, I'm with all the above. Choke needed, even at 14-16 degrees we are getting here just now, for at least 5 mins, slowly feed it back in when driving away, you may need to pull it out a bit if the engine stutters. You get used to doing it between gear changes! You should not need throttle on startups as the choke cam should open the throttle sufficiently

I would guess your car is running way too rich. Your air filter is non spec I have found those pancakes to be rubbish and I recommend the original if available.

Ignore the rev counter. Use your ears :) As stated, revs do not vary at a set speed. Unless clutch slipping.

Get the warm tickover to 750/800. Set timing by ear or book and ditto the mixture. Do you have points or electronic ignition?

  2. I see now that your idle screw us on the front of the carb. Mine is on the rear!

Just have run and if it races, check all the carb  capable positions and spindle location. Pop filter off and check postings down.

What oil have you in the damper dash pot?

  3. Ummmm.  No, the spring would not push it back and would keep the throttle open and hence high revs ??? I think :)

Next time it runs away, just hook the pedal up with your toes under it.... Wear winkle pickers with toe caps in???

my hyundai ran away with me when the small rubber end of the cable at the carb end broke off and got jammed under the quadrant! Had me flummoxed until I found it.

I'll compare my setup to yours tomorrow I hope. Had chemo today and sometimes I react badly for a few days. No worries

  4. Yea, I'd get a pair of pliers on the choke cable joint and square that up.

We are talking the choke cable here, not throttle.  I don't think the choke is causing the high revs  unless not being released when warmed up? Needs checking that when the knob is pushed in (the dash) that the gap appears

Still think the throttle pedal is not returning!! (On the floor in the car, like an organ pedal in my 13/60

    How’s this gap? Big enough?

Looks a bit large and 'way' of centre!

    Wonder why it is bent?

Have you adjusted the idle screw? (On the throttle cable)

Just thought, have you tried pulling the throttle pedal UP when high revving, and checked the pedal return springg?

  6. Just read the original post and the high revs reminded me that when I got my car I had the same problem.

After checking choke and throttle cables and idle screw I had no idea why it would not come below 1200rpm. Weeks later when changing air filter, I spotted that one of the two screws that hold the butterfly on the spindle was missing !!!. (Where it is ??? Who knows :( )

same size as meccano screws of which I have hundreds so, once replaced the revs are now down to 800 :)😀

Oil pressure,(5k>1.5k) water temp, (60-70)oil temp, (60) revs (750 tick over) and vac. (18 at idle) Also front and rear fogs and reversing lights! (Which talk!)

I would welcome your opinions and will not be offended  🙂

Apologies for the AA & V. Badges

I'm bored and mainly bed bound due to problems this week. Bear with me xx BARE y'ijut20220421_141210.thumb.jpg.8ac6ebaf7fd89f75b00aca70bbcc1e36.jpg

Got a pile of various types of those in my garage, can`t remember where from as i have never had them on a car.

I you mean the embelishers,  Have you got one like my damaged one Steve? I would like to have a full set spare ?

If it is the catches, ..... sorry :)

  9. I like my hub caps and embelishers,  mind, when changing them from 3.5 to 4.5 you need to 'adjust' the inner lip to get the hubcap on. Bit of a nightmare.

I also had an accident with one when the hubcap came off and the TPMS cap held the trim on the wheel for 15 feet :(

Good job I have loads of spares!
