  1. wow, fast and very helpful info--thanks guys. cheers
  2. hi guys, I have just ordered an accuspark electric fan and thermostat. I am going to fit an inline fuse but am not sure what amp fuse I should fit also does it need a relay fitted for reliable running. cheers
  3. thanks guys for your replies--all noted cheers
  4. hi all, am I right in thinking that the herald and spitfire are identical except obviously for the body and interior i.e. are the steering and front/rear suspension/ drive train etc the same . I have a spitfire engine fitted . the reason I am asking is that I have a branch of moss Europe within walking distance who seem to cater for the spitfire and it would be much easier to get parts from them rather than paying postage from the usual suspects. cheers
  5. further to my last post I forgot to mention to ask andy for longer wires than on the mg
  6. hi, I used to have a mgb gt and found I was leaving the indicators on as I could not hear the relay clicking so I fitted a audible bleeper from andy capy who specialises in mg accessories. I obtained another kit from him to fit to my 13/60 as I couldn't hear the indicators clicking. the kit fitted easily even though the instructions are for a 2 pin relay on a mg--just connect the two spade connectors to the two terminals which are not connected to the white wires and bobs your uncle,i already had the gearbox cover off so just fed the wires up under the dash otherwise you would have to feed them through a hole in the bulkhead. andy capy is on 01582 832305.or see his web site. well worth doing if you are hard of hearing.
  7. I have just noticed that the tyres are 10 years old and although they have plenty of tread I think I will change them and fit 155,s cheers
  8. my 1969 13/60 is fitted with 165 width tyres, are these too wide?--they seem to be quite big on the wheels and I am wondering if this could be dangerous i.e rolling off the rims on hard cornering. any advice?
  9. thanks guys, looks like the box is going to have to come out to see whats wrong Grrr. anyone know a classic mobile mechanic in the sw London/surrey/hants area ? cheers
  10. I thought I had fixed the non operating clutch by moving the slave cylinder forward but on a trial run today found that sometimes the clutch would work ok ( albeit with a lowish pedal ) and at other times would not work.it is not hydraulic related. does this sound like the pivot pin is not engaged or dropped out even though I can feel something in the hole about 1/2 down from the top. can a new pin be just knocked in from the top or does the gearbox need to come out. I was congratulating myself for fixing it but obviously spoke too soon. any help appreciated. cheers
  11. thanks guys for all your suggestions and advice this last week. it was with some trepidation I took the dremel too my new slave cylinder and cut a new groove for the retaining bolt about a 1/2 inch further back but it seems to have worked,i bled the system and can now get all the gears o.k. thanks again.
  12. thanks for the link,i have found the hole where I think the pin is supposed to be and have inserted a screwdriver into it but the screwdriver goes in a little way and hits something solid--does this mean the pin is still present? cheers
  13. thanks pete ,any chance of a sketch or photo of where the pivot pin is as I cannot see it. sorry if I am a being a bit dense but triumph heralds are new to me also if the pin is missing are new ones available? cheers
  14. hi aii, I have replaced the clutch master and slave cylinder on my 69 13/60 but cannot get the car into gear even though the clutch is working and well bled. it seems there is too much travel on the clutch slave cylinder pushrod before it engages and I am wondering if this means the clutch is stuck on and not allowing it to spring back against the release bearing. if so what do I do next ? anyone got any ideas? cheers
  15. hi all , can anyone tell me where the indicator flasher unit is on my 1969 herald 13/60 ?--I cannot find it under the dashboard . the reason is I want to fit an audible alarm so I do not keep leaving the indicators on. cheers
  16. hi all, I took my Delaney heater matrix to this guy this morning -- G.T. RADIATORS Littleton lane shepperton middx tw17 0nf tel 01932 568816 contact Lee he unsoldered the bottom of the matrix and you would not believe how the tubes were blocked with crud even though I had back flushed it several times,he cleaned out the tubes and then power blasted it then resoldered it and pressure tested it. the cost was £45 plus vat. he can also get a new modern core to fit at about £100 plus vat. he can do mail order with shipping costs about £10. this is a real old fashioned place not like the sterile places you get nowadays and lee is really helpful. I will try to post some before and after photos when I get back from holiday if I can figure out how to do it. alli have to do now is refit the heater but I think it will have to wait until I get back
  17. hi guys , further to my heater post the situation is that all heater hoses get hot so the valve is ok but the hose at the top of the Delaney heater does not get hot. I have looosened the hose right off and after some bubbles get a strong water flow. my problem is that I want to know is the top heater hose the return or entry for the water as I want to reverse flush the matrix. can anyone help? cheers
  18. thanks for that. cheers
  19. hi guys ,further to my last post I am wondering what differences there are between the GE engine and a FD engine apart from the camshaft. so that if I need to order parts do I order spitfire or 13/60 parts such as the clutch and plugs etc and are the tappet gaps the same. sorry to be posting what some would see as silly questions but this is my first triumph and I am on a steep learning curve. cheers
  20. thanks for your replies, the car is a red 1969 13/60 which was fitted with a new all syncro box 12000 miles ago according to the history file I got with the car but there is no mention of an engine change. the car has retained the single 150 Stromberg carb and manifolds and lucas dizzy. I cannot research the history of the car any further as the owner is now sadly deceased, what I was worried about was that the car had been fitted with a 1200 engine but it seems there is nothing to be concerned about apart from why the engine was replaced and of course the dvla will need to be notified . I have copies of the registration docs for the last 35 years (only 3 owners from new) and they al show the GE engine fitted. the car was previously owned by a guy called mark taylor ( from Sutton ) who was a tssc member and attended many shows judging by the number of plaques and stickers on the car--perhaps some of the older members remember the car and owner. any info gratefully received. cheers

    engine no

h all, I am a bit worried about my engine no---the log book says GE40998HE but if I am reading the right no on the engine it says FD34646HE what engine does this no refer to? the car has only done 56000miles (old mots validate ) this so it would be a bit strange to have the engine changed. anyone got any ideas ? cheers
  22. hi, up to recently I ran a mgb and the trouble I had with the electric pumps was no joke--some are really really noisy or fragile and a constant cause of problems and the club forum full of complaints and queries about pump problems if I were you I would stick with the mechanical one. cheers
  23. thanks for that--posted same question twice my mistake. cheers
  24. thanks guys--time to get out and get under !
