  1. Yes, there are four clamps, the problem for me was the outer left one. There is no real adjustment you can do other than lever them open a bit with a screwdriver or something or squeeze them shut etc... My one was just squeezed too tight around the spring and it was grabbing the lower leaf. We just stood bouncing the car up and down over a pit watching it. It's probably something completely different on your car but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Henry
  2. I don't have anything broken on mine, the spring is in fact brand new. It is simply a minor adjustment required on the clamp which is part of the spring itself for me. If I forget it for long enough it will probably wear a little and stop doing it anyway!!
  3. Haha, that made me chuckle! I got a nice GT6 target logo holder for it the other day too, now it looks very smart indeed if I dare say so myself! Henry
  4. I have an annual TSSC membership tax disc in my GT6 as we speak... Issued by the TSSC months ago. Henry
  5. I have very recently discovered the cause of a similar knocking sound on my GT6. Turned out to be the bottom leaf of the rear spring catching slightly on the clamp that wraps the leaves together on the left hand side, it is too tight and the leaf sticks and then pings and slaps the next leaf, I had to put the car over a pit and bounce it up and down for ages whilst taking it in turns to watch what was happening underneath. I haven't fixed it yet but I know it's not major problem now. Henry
  6. Hi All, Long time no see... Been a bit busy lately... Gary - I can't confirm numbers now but I spoke to Garth ages ago and confirmed that my shocks match the Open and Closed lengths that he had written down. Cookie - That's exactly what I did, got fed up with the stupid mounts ripping off and having to weld them back on, so when I did the rebuild I decided to ditch them... I never had a bottoming out problem before this though, the car sits higher with the new spring on now too, and it still does it more than I would see reasonable, granted it is now bearable and doesn't really bother me much. It bottoms out when I hit hard dips in the road at speed and when accelerating hard up steep and bumpy roads, otherwise it's okay. Alan - I don't have any rubber buttons on my GT6's spring, I saw them on the diagrams on Canleys website etc... Not really sure where they go, doesn't look like they go anywhere in my particular spring, or the old one for that matter... I haven't tried sticking a bump stop on yet to see if it makes it more comfortable yet... Henry

    Oil pressure

It's all interesting stuff! I'm just intrigued to see if it makes a noticeable difference to mine. I'll do anything to make the engine last, it's great and I don't want it blowing up! Henry

    Oil pressure

Richard - There are now only 4 left! Thanks for mentioning that! I thought I'd get some and give it a try as the old beast is due an oil change soon. Henry

    Oil pressure

I've been flitting between Halfords oil in that old green tin and some cheap stuff from my local factors. I've never had a problem with it that I'm aware of... I'm interested on the lots of fast runs bit though... I do a lot of miles in my car, my other half lives in Manchester and I live in The New Forest, that's about a 500 mile round trip every time I visit! My oil pressure is fine, but does that mean the oil is doing a good enough job or should I look at changing it to something more expensive? Henry
  10. I have never even considered fitting a servo, mainly because it's just something else to go wrong! When I get in my GT6 the brakes scare me because they are so sharp compared to my servo assisted Nissan Almera (no I'm not proud of owning that...). The brakes are simply in very very good condition and well serviced... Henry
  11. Oh, and one other thing, she seems to have lost her slight imbalance at high speed as well now, presumably because of the new rotoflex joints, so she's as smooth as anything the entire way to the top speed! Henry
  12. Richard, thanks for the heads up on that one, certainly sounds interesting but it's a bit far for me too unfortunately as I live in the new forest near Southampton... I put the car back on the road last night completely fixed. Got a set of sealed GKN UJ's and a pair of QH Couplings, which like Alan were the same as the ones I removed which had made 8 years on the car, and had survived lots of major faults which I would have expected to render them useless... I did a complete refurb of all the drive joints, sand blasted and repainted so it all looks good again under there! She's driving like new again today! Hopefully this time she'll be able to handle the abuse I give her!! Henry
  13. Keep us up to date on how that goes for you Richard, I'll be interested to know as this is probably going to be an option for me in the near future. For now though unfortunately I'm tight for cash so it's going to have to be the £60 option as I don't intend on keeping the noise box off the road for long! Henry
  14. Almost had a stroke when I saw on Rimmer Brothers they are selling the expensive ones for nearly £500!!!!! Seriously, it's a load of steel plates in a blob of rubber!? £555 gets you the complete cv conversion from the same page!
  15. Having dragged myself away from my dismantling, cleaning, sand blasting, painting fun, I've just had a look through the car's history to find that the Rotoflex Doughnuts were purchased in 2007 from James Paddock. They still list the exact same part on their website, granted for twice the price now! The ones on my car have done very well considering my driving style and about 6 total driveshaft wipeouts from various things including yoke failure, UJ failure, and the right hand one survived a rotoflex mounting bolt shearing off causing it to distort and bang away on the leaf spring for 20 miles before arriving home as I couldn't be bothered to wait for the AA!! I might just buy a set of those... Henry
  16. Hi All, Me again with an extension to the UJ problem! So as it turns out the rotoflex doughnut is wrecked as well on my GT6... What's the deal with replacing them, I understand that some on the market are a load of rubbish and this is obviously a very important part of the car... Any safe places to buy them from, what sort of price should I expect? Henry
  17. Okay. Yeah, I guess that all sounds reasonable. Looks like that will be the way to go then! Will be nice to be able to put my foot down without the blinking drive train falling over every time! Thanks for the advice! Henry
  18. That's Interesting... So are these Landrover ones actually the right size? I seem to recall someone mentioning that they have a slightly larger OD on the caps? That same person then went on to say but they fit if you have a big enough hammer... I wont be taking that approach as the yokes split if they are beaten like that! Henry
  19. Update: I have just seen that there are GKN units sealed for life on ebay at the moment! This was not the case last time I had to buy some, the only GKN ones on there were the propshaft ones with the grease nipple, these are no good as the driveshafts have to take nearly 4 times as much load and the hollow grease paths scare me!! I just had some unknown brand ones that were all I could come by at the time, maybe these GKN ones could be the solution?? Henry
  20. Hi All, As the title suggests, I am having real problems with my universal joints on the drive shafts of my GT6, since she was road worthy again in September she has sheared 3 spiders in half! The last one was today... Is there anywhere I can buy some of these things from where they are not made of crumbly cheese?? I need to get a pair ASAP really... Henry
