1969Mk3Spitfire
Position 2, illuminating the instruments, doesn't work on my light switch. It's not a big problem as there is a spare terminal on position 1 so I've simply moved the connection. I have a replacement switch but haven't as yet got around to fitting it. The main reason is that after 50+ years in residence, the knob is very unwilling to part company from the shaft. Anyone have any tips to remove it, please? johny
You know you have to stick a little pin in the hole in the knob as shown in the workshop manual? If still stuck with grot a bit of WD40 left to soak in should free it off....

Every now and again (when I remember) I spray the offending hole with WD40 and have done for about a year...........but no sign as yet of unsticking the grot. It's unwilling to give up its grip. johny
so you have a suitable pin, push it in and out of the knob hole to release the lock mechanism while pulling and it wont shift? Mine came off pretty easy so your previous owners must have had really grotty fingers🤢
PeteH
Unless I am thinking of a different style of switch. I think at the bottom of the hole is a small spring loaded ball, the grot gets behind the ball and it won`t move. I suspect you may have to get "heavy handed" to shift it?. johny
yes, thats the one although dont think its a ball but a spring plate attached to the switch stem that has a pimple on it and this engages in the hole in the knob. Needs a lot of grot to jam up but I suppose its possible....
1969Mk3Spitfire
Thanks, guys, With a little more conviction, following your words of wisdom, I “worked” the ball and spring a bit and then pulled the knob harder than I otherwise would have. Job done, ✔️
