Rimmers stainless steel mesh headlight stone guards

Has anyone fitted these to there Triumph, in particular a Vitesse.
The NZ Triumph parts supplier sells them at a reasonable price and I am pretty sure they get stock from Rimmers as the part numbers are identical.
I bought 2 pairs for my Vitesse and am not having any luck with them.

on a Vitesse  they wont fit there is no room between the lamp rim and the vitesse bezel  to fit the clips and clip the mesh in place  

i used clear silicon to glue them to the lense  that worked well for years and no body ever noticed  

and the clips are pretty awful anyway with a good chance of loosing a guard if you get close to making them work
