SpitfireGeorge
Hi Guys, When I switch on the ignition both the oil and ignition warning lights come on. When the engine is running both go out. When I switch off and remove the keys the ignition light comes on! I fitted a new loom as part of the car rebuild. Any ideas? Pete Lewis
is this with dynamo or alternator ??? Pete
johny
All I can think is that the ignition light wire is connected to a permanent live instead of the ignition switch so it would go out on starting as the dynamo/alternator generates but otherwise be lit all the time. The error could even be on the back of the ignition switch where the ignition light wire has been pushed onto a terminal 1 spare spade instead of the one for terminal 2... SpitfireGeorge
Thanks Pete and Jonny for the replies. Dynamo. I will check the ignition switch. Thanks again Brett
SpitfireGeorge
Hi Guys, Checked the ignition switch and I have 4 white wires, 5 with the OD one, not 3 as per the mk3 wiring diagram. Ran engine and when I turned it off at the switch the engine would not stop! Had to disconnect the earth at the battery. Further investigation required I think! Cheers, Brett
johny
This has worsened then, before you could actually turn off the engine couldnt you?
SpitfireGeorge
Certainly could. Suspect it must have a resistor like a mk4 loom making the 4th white wire.
