Front top ball joints

Recommended Posts

Andrew.

I contributed to a thread the other day regarding the lower ball joints, where the owner currently has grease nipples on these joints. I said that IMHO he has the best situation as they can be lubricated, serviced and assessed for wear.

So, taking that in to consideration I would say YES go for the type with grease nipples as I believe that more owners across the classic car range; not just Triumph are looking at this option with certainty - fuelled by the unpredictability of "sealed for life" joints. Yes they may be, but how long they last and the level of quality when new can be a lotto.

At least with the greasing opportunity you have better control on the units life span.

I mentioned one particular point that owners are certainly looking at grease nipples on their prop-shaft UJ's now, for the very reason given above.

Best wishes.

manufacturing costs  !!!   sealed for life   is cheaper to make and cuts down servicing costs.   until you need a premature replacement.

the rubber gaitor is the most likely to fail first..and  then road dirt and water finishes off whatever type you have

greasers can lead to water and road dirt ingress , so there's some argument sealed is going to last longer....but if not adequately greased on assy then how long is life,

only as long as it lasts

then if  greasers are in place ......... many never used them ...

if its supposedly sealed  ................ you dont need too

just some ramblings
