Determining original gearbox serial number

Colin Lindsay

Recommended Posts

I've made a slight foo-pas and stored three gearboxes together for the last two years, and now can't remember which came from my 1964 1200 convertible. As the car was fully original when purchased I'd like to restore it that way with all the original units.

BMIHT records don't cover gearboxes or differentials, so I can't ask them.

Any ideas as to how to work out which gearbox is the right one?

This is where the plot definitely thickens... the two I'm working on at present in the garage are a GB and a CB prefix.... hence my confusion.... :)

I'll post photos to confirm that's the number rather than face prolonged posts about being short-sighted / senile / hallucinating / should have gone to Specsavers etc...
