Captain
I've been reading all the great posts about the merits (or not) about brake servos. I'd like to fit one myself to my mk3 GT6, but I'm unsure about how to fit it or where it actually goes in the car. Can anyone offer any advice or show some pictures of their setup? Where have people bought their servos from in the past? Many thanks Captain
Pete Lewis
wher ever you fit it the after market girling type servo thats available in volume is a universal kit , none sold are 'dedicated' there are a variety of ratios 1.9 :1 is normal and do some serious searches as costs vary vastly eg http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RH5272 http://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/cart.aspx http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BEK028-BRAND-NEW-MINI-BRAKE-SERVO-FITTING-KIT-TT3949Z-/381208976673?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item58c1d35d21
JohnD
Captain, Let's just run through the pros and cons. Pro - a servo lets you apply less pressure on the pedal for the same braking effect. Con - you get the same braking effect. A good idea for those with a weak or arthritic right knee, but no advantage for anyone else. JOhn
dougbgt6
Originally I had a Girling servo which was fitted as standard. Never really worked but as John points out, so what! Then it started leaking brake fluid into the vacuum and it had to go. Unfortunately I discovered that to remove a factory fitted servo is an MOT fail. (Yes it is!) It's OK if it doesn't work or leaks fluid into the vacuum, that's a pass! I bought the Rimmer one. Wish I'd seen the Ebay one!
