JonCronin
Hi all, I have a stage 2 cylinder head that I acquired :-) for my mk3 Spitfire. I was told it was fitted to a mk3 previously but on checking parts numbers the Abingdon tuning guide says the head fits a Triumph 1300 - is this compatible? Anyone know whether this will fit an early mi3 spit engine? Thanks.
Clive
It will fit, but really you will be wanting to know what has been done to teh head? Stage 2 has absolutely no meaning, it varies from machine shop to machine shop. And if building a fast road or rally engine, you will be wanting the correct matching camshaft? Or skim the head to match whatever cam you are using?
JonCronin
Thanks Clive. Good to know it will fit! The head is a period SAH stage 2 - I have the specs of what comprised their stage 2, and will be matched to a SAH 26 profile cam their stromberg 150 twin carb upgrade. Pete Lewis
Just make sure you use the deep heavy duty nuts and hard washers or the torque clamp will soon drop off from the 46lbft any std nut will strip, most soft washers deform canleys sell them or not original use upside down wheel nuts pete
Clive
Worth carefully checking that cam, especially if used. A TT cam in my engine had huge wear on 3 of the lobes after just 10K, and some of the TT supplied followers were breaking up on the surface. And yes, it was run in as per the manufacturers instructions, and high zddp oil always used. Car driven as it was meant to be as well.....
