  1. Very sad to see this. I had a car (original shape Rover 216) catch fire on me while driving. It was put down to a fuel leak, probably a line fractured in the injection system. Car was only 3-4 years old and in good order. What started the fire wasn't found. Never got 2 kids in car seats out so fast.......had to stand at the side of the road while it burned. Andy
  2. My PJ policy for my Spitfire (AV £7.5k) says that it HAS to be in garage if at home between 10pm and 6am. Andy
  3. I asked Westgate Classics for a quote to respray my Spitfire a couple of years ago and they came back with £3.5k. Not sure if that included VAT or not. Other quotes I've had start at £1.3k - probably too cheap. Andy

  6. Many thanks for the replies. Commission number FH 13xxxx. Ignition key is at side of column just under the wiper stalk. The motorlita boss has the right size splines, so will wait for their comments. Andy
  7. I have a Motorlita wheel fitted to my 1979 Spitfire. I bought this from the club shop and it came with a generic mounting boss. This works perfectly well, but does not have a Triumph logo. I thought I would buy a boss from Motorlita and get the correct badge. The boss has arrived and won't fit. The splines seem to mate OK, but the base of the unit is too wide and fouls the steering column shroud. Motorlita list two bosses for the Spitfire. The one I ordered is 48 spline diameter 19.04 mm. This is for 1979 on models. The other is for up to 1978 and has 36 splines, diameter 15.90 mm. Can anyone tell me which size of spline my car should have? i have also asked Motorlita for their comments. The club shop no longer stocks the wheels and can't help. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
  8. According to the DVLA website it was last MOt'ed in 2013, expired 24 May 2014. Its currently SORN'ed, so must be sitting in someone garage or shed somewhere. Andy

  14. I've found the bulb for the courstey light hanging loose under the dashboard. Its still working, but I can't see where it fits. Can anyone 'enlighten' me as to where it goes please? Andy

  17. I once had a cloud of smoke from under the dashboard of my 13/60 convertible. Turn out that someone had 'repaired' the wiring by jamming a bare wire into a bullet connector with a live match! Result one short and extensive repairs. Andy

  20. ..or any other rear wheel drive car for that matter? When my Spitfire was recovered earlier in the week, the AA patrolman consulted his control centre who said that it had to be done as a rear wheel lift because it had a oil pumped gearbox?? New one on me. When I ran Herald they just got pulled along if required. Also said that they wouldn't recover a car with wire wheels this way because of the risk of the wheels coming loose. Any thoughts? Andy
