  1. So i have been given a brand new compressor,it has a v-twin engine and works great but,the dipstick is missing.

It doesn`t really need a dipstick as there is an inspection window for the oil level so i was planning to just put a bolt and copper washer in the hole. How do i find what size i need?,all i can do is measure the hole which is 15mm diameter.

  2. I have the Jones,Bowler conversion on my Vitesse and it is excellent, however no longer available.(I think Nick is machining more adapters).

I am putting together parts for converting my Herald and have a full roto setup on the bench,I am not clear with the shimming aspect, when i stripped it all down there were no shims that i could see?

I am using the Jigsaw type/Rimmers shafts using the original hub etc.

Any advice appreciated,i would have posted on CT as well but their new site is too annoying.

  3. So today i attempted to get my Vitesse out after it not running since September,i`m ashamed to say that as i normally use it all year round. But i have been so busy with work and acquiring and building an 18 foot man shed in my garden,(in poxy weather).

It has a 2.5 lump and a Facet electric pump on it,i turned it over with no pump running to get the oil going, then engaged the pump. The pump sounded like it was sucking air only so i checked and found the pickup rubber pipe from tank to pump in the boot had hardened and was loose on the pipe connection, not only that but the metal pipe that goes into the tank was flopping about and could be withdrawn from the securing nut easily,is there supposed to be an olive or something here?.

I replaced the knackered rubber pipe with another and got it started and took it out for a blast after pumping the tyres up,clutch bearing is still making a whining noise when the clutch is depressed.Annoying but i missed not using it.

  4. Sorry for the hijack but,in my Vitesse 2.5 i have a saloon box with o/d.

It has a TR7 cross shaft upside down.

How long should i get out of a clutch? it has done about 12k on this one but it is becoming hard to engage a gear when its hot, could this be hydraulic?.

I also get a couple of seconds of whining noise when off the pedal from the bearing.

  5. The last one on e bay went for over £500,i was watching it.

There`s a PI engine on the bay at the moment with an SAH cover that looks like its been stored in the sea, that,s already at silly money as i suspect people are bidding for the cover rather than the engine.

  6. 3 hours ago, Pete Lewis said:

having seen a single rail fitted into a herald 13/60 the gear lever spherical is too low and the hole in the herald tunnel blocks stick movement

and you need a big hole and leather gaitor to make it work ok,    ( this was a £800  professional replacement cock up which left owner with no gaitor or no 4th gear )    wonderful  !!!       ( maybe  you could  raise the assy )

Don`t know about this Pete,i fitted that box in my 13/60 and it`s fine with the tunnel cover and carpet etc.Works a treat and makes a big difference with the 3:63 diff as well.

  7. I am about to replace the radio in my Vitesse (1968 MK 1 CV) with a modern as posted in one of the other threads.

In the drivers side footwell side board I have a speaker,it is rectangular, held by 4 studs and nuts, and the speaker and surround look very much like the original one I have for the radio and speaker that sits on the tunnel. The side one is definitely period,i wondered if these were factory fitted as I thought the radio and surround etc. were optional.

  8. I got flat, round locking chrome ones for my Herald and Vitesse as i don`t like the look of the Waso ones.

From E bay as new old stock.

Just make sure they are vented as mine weren`t and you will break down when the pump tries to create a vacuum in the system.Easily fixed by making small hole in the seal.

  9. Gareth Thomas did extensive work on my HS6 `long tract` manifold (see avatar) when i built my 2.5,matched to the work with the head he also did, and tested all the way through on a flow bench to get the best results possible.

All i can tell you that it goes really well and has bags of torque.
