    con rod bolts

What are people using to lock the con rod bolts on a 1600 as the locking tabs don't appear to be available any more? Similar problem with cam gear bolts and flywheel bolts... Are people just using Loctite thread lock?

    Hot coil

Thanks, changed the coil and problem solved!

    Hot coil

Has any one moved their ignition coil to the bulkhead. Mine is getting very hot bolted to the block on a vitesse. It failed today but came back to life after 10 minutes when it had cooled down.
  5. Pete I have a brand new old stock cam to fit with the new followers ???? Cheers
  6. Thanks Pete As a matter of interest why did you convert your seal to the lip type? I'm in two minds whilst the engine is in bits.... I'm also considering getting the block bored to take the later larger tappets, any thoughts on that?
  7. My 1600 engine has a scroll type seal on the rear of the crankshaft / block. How effective are these? Can i use a later rear seal carrier with a standard lip seal on one of these cranks?
  8. Great thanks Pete I've found a TR6 one on e bay in the states and I'm over there in a couple of weeks and I have a USA mailing address I can use :-)
  9. Thanks Pete I just need to find a set and a half of std 1200 Pistons then or a single 1600 piston. Could be hunt the Pistons at Beaulieu time this sept! Along with hunt the front pulley .... Does anyone know if a 2ltr crank damper/ pulley will fit?
  10. Thanks Pete I just need to find a set and a half of std 1200 Pistons then or a single 1600 piston. Could be hunt the Pistons at Beaulieu time this sept! Along with hunt the front pulley .... Does anyone know if a 2ltr crank pulley will fit?
  11. Pete Is the gudgeon pin to crown height the same on the herald pistons? The bore would need a +40 1600 piston to clear the gouge. I will look at the herald bore sizes to see what would work in lieu of trying to get replacement standard pistons / ring set and sleeving 1 bore. ( £100 to get it sleeved and bored)
  12. Does anyone have a good front crank pulley and a couple of Std pistons for a 1600? I'm building up my spare engine to swap over this winter and the pulley damper is shot and 2 pistons have ring groove damage. One bore is bad so I'm getting that one sleeved to keep it standard size if I can get a couple of pistons ( cheaper than a rebore on all 6 pots and new pistons!)
  13. Thanks Pete, So an HC box with OD + 3.89 diff. I will keep a look out Guess I will need a shorter prop shaft + switch stalk and od gear box mount. Could be a winter project to go with the spare engine re-build..... There was a guy making good tunnel covers with access panels to check / top up the level. anyone got his details as I've lost them!
  14. I'm looking to upgrade my Vitesse 6 "HB" gearbox, I'm thinking about fitting a 2ltr "HC" box. Any issues with doing this? are the output flanges the same size? My HB box wines and with no 1st synchro it can be challenging at times! Ta
  15. Can any one recommend the best supplier of cam lifters to use on a 1600 engine (small diameter lifters) What are the ones on e bay like?

    Pistons

That's great news, I will use them for my 1600 rebuild...

    Pistons

I thought Sutton Rebore had folded https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/2230641 They were a great company. I used them many a time especially with my Dolomite engine re-build parts.
  18. I have just replaced the UJ's on my prop shaft ( sliding joint type) I have lost the indexing of the sliding joint yoke to the shaft ( the tape came off!)! What is the correct orientation of the sliding rear yoke to the front yoke? Thanks
  19. Pete Interestingly enough it has a stabilised sender and gauge, I've just added a voltage stabiliser to make it read correctly!!
  20. my vitesses 6 has got a lock ring sender type fuel tank but someone in the past has cut down and fitted a 6 hole sender. All was ok till i took the sender out to clean the tank, now i cant stop it leaking! I can only find gaskets listed for the 6 hole senders, what did the lock ring senders use to seal them?

    camshaft

I have just laid my hands on 2 new old stock 308778 camshafts for £45 the pair !!!!! They are still in wax paper and the shipping tube..... I intend to put them in 1600 Vitesse engines, has anyone run these before? From what I can gather they are 2ltr GT6 / Vitesse cams.
  22. On a vitesse 6 gearbox can you fit a reversing light switch and if so where on the box does it screw in??
  23. Bob. If you go on e bay and search do a user called Sponmon. Send him a message and he will do the lot for you. He is based just off the m6 toll at Lichfield. His name is Ian. He sells the tools as well but I got him to do mine. I sent mine up there with a courier and it cost me £12 to ship it. Cheers
  24. I have now managed to get hold of the old smiths gauge test box.... £25 on e bay! So it will be easy to tell with the temp gauge. The test box will be available for loan after i have finished with it....
  25. Right...... I pulled the fuel gauge and trasmitter, set them up on the bench with a variable power supply. I set the volts to 11.8 to simulate what was happening in the car. Sure enough over full at full and 1/4 tank at empty. The power supply was reset to 10 volts to simulate a voltage stabilizer supply. This time it read full and empty! It looks like a gauge and transmitter from a later voltage regulator car was fitted at some point in its history. The next thing will be to check the temp gauge to see if that is a 10 volt gauge as well. Either way i'm going to be fitting a voltage stabilizer even if it only goes to the fuel gauge.
