  1. Does anyone know if the door hinges that attach to the A post have nuts behind them ? I tried to tighten the bolts on my passenger door but they keep turning and there's seems no way in to the A post to check. Could I cut an inspection hole to see whats's happening and then re-weld?
  2. Hi Guys Thanks for all the advice So I think I'll try and run the tank down a bit and then try and get it out with the drain plug in place. Assuming it comes out I can then see if the plug can be easily removed - if it can, is there a shorter drain cap that can be fitted ? I like the idea of welding a plate but that's a bit beyond me. I've already got a filter in place but that's on the pipe leading into the first carb. If I fit a second filter as Darren suggest, I'm assuming I just cut the pipe coming out of the tank and then put the new filter in place with union clips? All this just to get the overrider off! One last question, if I just want to remove the rear bumper do I drill out the rivets and replace with self tappers? Robin
  3. thanks Casper - so I assume that leaving some fuel in the tank will stop any sediment getting through?
  4. Hi All I need remove the rear valance on my vitesse but it looks like I need to remove the fuel tank to get to the bolts on the passenger side chrome overrides. Any tips on fuel tank removal and is there a risk of getting sediment into the system when I refill it? Thanks Robin
  5. Thanks guys for all the advice
  6. Robin Hi David - So is just a case of running wires from the + and - battery terminals? If so what gauge wiring would I need? Robin
  7. Thanks Chris Was thinking I might try and rig something inside the dash ashtray, maybe with an iPod dock as well - seem to remember seeing something similar but can't think where Robin
  8. Hi All I want to fit a 12v socket to run a sat nav or charge a phone. Do I connect straight to the battery terminals or to the ignition. The battery route sounds easier but would that cause problems? Thanks Robin
  9. I had an overdrive unit fitted last year to my vitesse mk 2 gearbox. Everything works fine but I've noticed that the gear change is much stiffer after the engine has warmed up - maybe after 10 miles or so of driving. Is this normal? Also, is there an easy way to top up the gearbox oil or do I have to remove the housing from inside the car to get access? Thanks Robin
  10. Hi Rich Think I need to do the same. Have you done yours yet and if so was it easy? Thanks Robin
  11. Rich - I think it's from a 2500 pi mk2 but worth checking one of the online databases
  12. Hi Mick & Clive Thanks for the advice - I think I'm going to swap back to the strombergs before the rolling road. Switching to SUs has been an expensive experiment but I guess it's all part of the learning process!
  13. Checked the needles and they're stamped BAE. The engine is a standard unit from a 2000 mk 2. It runs well but a little lumpy on tick over (better when warm) but I'm only getting about 170 miles on a full tank (was getting just over 200 miles when I had the Stromberg 150s). Could the low consumption be due to the needles and if so what type of needles would be better? Going for a rolling road session at Revivals soon so wondering if I should change the needles now or wait until I see what the rolling road reveals. Any advice would be welcome Thanks
  14. Thanks Clive - I'm taking the car to a rolling road in a few weeks time and they've asked what needles I've got.
  15. How easy / difficult is it to identify the type of needles used in twin HS6 carbs? If I manage to get the needles out do the carbs have to be re-tuned again once I put them back? Thanks
  16. OK - thanks guys. Will keep looking
  17. Sorry if it's a dumb question but I need to find a good passenger door for my MK 2 Vitesse convertible - are Vitesse and Herald doors interchangeable? Apart from Quiller, does anyone know of a good place to find one? Thanks
  18. Thanks for all the responses
  19. Does anyone know the difference between an HE and HL suffix on a Vitesse mk 2 engine block? Robin

    Stromberg v SU

Thanks Pete - will be in touch. Robin

    Stromberg v SU

Hi Pete Thanks for the kind offer. I'll drop you a line to arrange a suitable time to come over - maybe sometime later this month if the weather is OK?
  22. Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere (couldn't see any threads) but how easy/difficult is it to bring a mk 1 vitesse engine up to a mk 2 spec. Is it just a question of swapping heads and camshaft or would other things need to be changed as well. Also is there much difference in normal driving between the two engines i.e. is it worth the hassle/expense? Thanks for any advice Robin
