  1. Robin Hi David - So is just a case of running wires from the + and - battery terminals? If so what gauge wiring would I need? Robin
  2. Thanks Chris Was thinking I might try and rig something inside the dash ashtray, maybe with an iPod dock as well - seem to remember seeing something similar but can't think where Robin
  3. Hi All I want to fit a 12v socket to run a sat nav or charge a phone. Do I connect straight to the battery terminals or to the ignition. The battery route sounds easier but would that cause problems? Thanks Robin
  4. I had an overdrive unit fitted last year to my vitesse mk 2 gearbox. Everything works fine but I've noticed that the gear change is much stiffer after the engine has warmed up - maybe after 10 miles or so of driving. Is this normal? Also, is there an easy way to top up the gearbox oil or do I have to remove the housing from inside the car to get access? Thanks Robin
  5. Hi Rich Think I need to do the same. Have you done yours yet and if so was it easy? Thanks Robin
  6. Rich - I think it's from a 2500 pi mk2 but worth checking one of the online databases
  7. Hi Mick & Clive Thanks for the advice - I think I'm going to swap back to the strombergs before the rolling road. Switching to SUs has been an expensive experiment but I guess it's all part of the learning process!
  8. Checked the needles and they're stamped BAE. The engine is a standard unit from a 2000 mk 2. It runs well but a little lumpy on tick over (better when warm) but I'm only getting about 170 miles on a full tank (was getting just over 200 miles when I had the Stromberg 150s). Could the low consumption be due to the needles and if so what type of needles would be better? Going for a rolling road session at Revivals soon so wondering if I should change the needles now or wait until I see what the rolling road reveals. Any advice would be welcome Thanks
  9. Thanks Clive - I'm taking the car to a rolling road in a few weeks time and they've asked what needles I've got.
  10. How easy / difficult is it to identify the type of needles used in twin HS6 carbs? If I manage to get the needles out do the carbs have to be re-tuned again once I put them back? Thanks
  11. OK - thanks guys. Will keep looking
  12. Sorry if it's a dumb question but I need to find a good passenger door for my MK 2 Vitesse convertible - are Vitesse and Herald doors interchangeable? Apart from Quiller, does anyone know of a good place to find one? Thanks
  13. Thanks for all the responses
  14. Does anyone know the difference between an HE and HL suffix on a Vitesse mk 2 engine block? Robin

Thanks Pete - will be in touch. Robin

    Stromberg v SU

Hi Pete Thanks for the kind offer. I'll drop you a line to arrange a suitable time to come over - maybe sometime later this month if the weather is OK?
  17. Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere (couldn't see any threads) but how easy/difficult is it to bring a mk 1 vitesse engine up to a mk 2 spec. Is it just a question of swapping heads and camshaft or would other things need to be changed as well. Also is there much difference in normal driving between the two engines i.e. is it worth the hassle/expense? Thanks for any advice Robin
  18. Hi Pete just got my tacho back from JDO and it's working perfectly. Great service so thanks for the recommendation Robin

    Stromberg v SU

Sorry - one more question If I wanted to improve the mpg of the twin SU's, how would I know what needles to swop to - or would a rolling road set up provide the info? Also, is it worth investing in something like a colortune kit to set up either SU or stromberg carbs?

    Stromberg v SU

Hi Clive &Pete Ok - thanks for the advice. As Pete says, it's been an expensive experiment! Do you know anyone who could service the strombergs before I re-fit them ? Robin

    Stromberg v SU

Hi Clive I think the carbs came off a TR6 As I'm not planning to modify my current engine do you think it's better to try and tune the SU's and change the needles to achieve better consumption or just swap back to my strombergs which we're working ok? Thanks Robin

    Stromberg v SU

Hi Clive Not had a chance to try the rolling road yet - is this best way to set up the carbs? Robin

    Stromberg v SU

Hi All A quick update - I decided to swap to twin 1 3/4 SU's on my vitesse (actually running on a mk 2 2000 engine with overdrive) and I'm pretty sure there's virtually no difference in performance. However, when I had the strombergs, I got about 200 miles from the tank whereas now I'm getting about 100 miles. I think the SU's are set up correctly (though I think the smell of petrol is stronger but no leaks) so I'm not sure why the dramatic increase in fuel consumption. If SU's are generally thirstier then I think I may swap back to the strombergs Any thoughts? Thanks Robin
  24. Hi Billuss 99 - do you still have either the MGF or the original Vitesse seats (Mk2) ? I've been away from the forum for a while and have only just seen your post. Thanks. Robin
