  1. Another quick question.... I think my car was resprayed in the early 90s - how do I tell if they used cellulose or 2 pack ( sorry, don't know much about paint). If I rub a small section with thinners and the paint comes off on the rag, does that indicate that it's cellulose? Thanks again
  2. Happy birthday Pete and thanks for all the advice Robin
  3. Hi Iain What do you use to make sure all the fluid is removed before painting ? Thanks
  4. Thanks for all the advice - looks as though it's a sanding job!
  5. Hi All The panel behind the hood on my Vitesse ( that one that the boot hinges attaches to) is in need of a respray and I wondered if a chemical paint remover would be better that rubbing down (less dust). If so, what products would anyone recommend and how do you make sure all of the stripper is removed before spraying? Once I've gone back to bare metal, my plan would be to spray and undercoat and then top coat using aerosol cans - is that the way to go and if so how many layers of top coat should I apply? All advice welcome!
  6. Hi All Where is the best front and rear jacking points for a trolley Jack i.e both wheels off the ground? Thanks
  7. Is it possible to remove the gearbox tunnel without having to remove the air distribution vent? It looks as though this would prevent the tunnel coming out so I just wanted to check before I start.
  8. Thanks to everyone for their advice. So if I did opt for the Mintex ones, do the holes need drilling for vitesse calipers or will my current pins fit ok. If drilling is required, how do I do this?
  9. Thanks Steve Just saw this on Canley's site: If fitting GBP216MINTEX to cars using Type16P & Type 16PB Imperial calipers, pad pin holes will need to be drilled out to 1/4" diameter to suit the larger pad pins. Is this relevant to a mk2 vitesse?
  10. Need to replace the front pads on my vitesse and I wondered if there was a particular make I should look for? Rimmer's are selling standard ones for £13 (I'm assuming that's a set) or EBC green stuff for £47. Is it worth spending the extra?
  11. Thanks both - just ordered a 13lb cap!
  12. Just bought a replacement radiator cap for my vitesse mk 2 but I've just noticed it's marked as 7 lb not 13 lb as per the manual. Does it matter?
  13. Pete & Gadgetman Rivnuts look good - so presumably I unbold the hinges, fit the rivnuts and then re-attach the hinges?
  14. So if I cut a couple of inspection holes - maybe big enough to get a socket through- would this weaken the A post i.e would it be dangerous?
  15. Thanks both - shame Triumph didn't put in some access holes.
  16. Does anyone know if the door hinges that attach to the A post have nuts behind them ? I tried to tighten the bolts on my passenger door but they keep turning and there's seems no way in to the A post to check. Could I cut an inspection hole to see whats's happening and then re-weld?
  17. Hi Guys Thanks for all the advice So I think I'll try and run the tank down a bit and then try and get it out with the drain plug in place. Assuming it comes out I can then see if the plug can be easily removed - if it can, is there a shorter drain cap that can be fitted ? I like the idea of welding a plate but that's a bit beyond me. I've already got a filter in place but that's on the pipe leading into the first carb. If I fit a second filter as Darren suggest, I'm assuming I just cut the pipe coming out of the tank and then put the new filter in place with union clips? All this just to get the overrider off! One last question, if I just want to remove the rear bumper do I drill out the rivets and replace with self tappers? Robin
  18. thanks Casper - so I assume that leaving some fuel in the tank will stop any sediment getting through?
  19. Hi All I need remove the rear valance on my vitesse but it looks like I need to remove the fuel tank to get to the bolts on the passenger side chrome overrides. Any tips on fuel tank removal and is there a risk of getting sediment into the system when I refill it? Thanks Robin
  20. Thanks guys for all the advice
