i would check the telescope on the prop they can (probably cause they dont move much) wear
to a terrible sloppy state. good for a no load rumble

the chance a nylock will do anything to stop a coupling from shuffle undoing is remote
in all the torque testing we were involved with in trucks was they were useless an many fixings reverted to plain nut and washer .
there are two types of triumph diff preload spacers castle nut and pin has a solid spacer
nylock nut uses a collapsible spacer
a solid spacer will maintain the preload its set with shims when you mess with the nut.
the collapsible spacer will maintain its size and the preload if the nut is replaced to the same torque and position as of the factory fit,
overtighten can overload the pre load , loose and you reduce the pre load .
pre load is required to keep things in mesh under ll the variable loads put through the geartrain
take care when hooking the oil seal you do not get hold of the outer brg. roller cage !!!!
and dont forget to top up the oil levels and if you want quieter diffs try EP140 GL4
but not in the gear box

Question is are there differing aluminium washer thicknesses available?
i guess thats down to who supplies /gets em from the base spec all should be the same its not known to be "shimable" its only the holder dimensions the counter bore and the washer that control the holder height so youre into some juggling !!!!

if you remove the cap from the top of the operating needle and run at 20mph you should get a good squirt of oil , there is a test proceedure 540/560 psi from that port .
if you get a squirt remove the ball and spring and withdraw the needle/spool it has a small hole through its centre it must be clear they do get blocked
have you cleaned the filter and magnetic rings inside the plate opposite side of the solenoid/lever cover ???

metal spraying is very hard and not that easy to regrind if you get one from dave at canley
it should be to the correct spec
at least he knows about the crap ones sold some while ago
then where do all the suppliers get their stock ???????

and dont discount the dreaded rubber slivers you slice off every time you refit s chap nassty fuel hose
they float about in the supply lines and block the back of the float valve
and they breed like rabbits

there must be some need to find a supplier its a pretty weak spring i have used a reformed one out of a retractable ball pen
there seems little point is supplies of the striker but no new spring thats only half a job

yes the inner column has the slide to collapse on an impact wsm gives some simple clues on setting it up
the outer column tube will also move as the dash clamp holds spring clamp
a good heave ho will move both in or out ....its designed to move/collapse

are both carbs ex rootes group if so both will have a choke starting valve and there will also be a push and twist choke stop to give you summer/winter choke travel
triumph never fitted that refinement small brass knurled knob with spring you push in and turn to reposition the choke stop ,,,quite clever
if you have two starting chokes do you have a twin cable to operate both together ????
(with an avid hate of pancack filters )

that little lightly sprung slider /wedge is very important in it stops the cam lifting out of the striker
on body movements

always running too rich,
springs do actually richen the mixture as the air velocity under the piston is increased and you pull
more fuel from the jet
rich running will give you hot starting problems you need to find just what needle spec is fitted
the hunter with 1725 cc pulls more air than the 1600...
having pancake filter then that weaken the mixture as you reduce the vacuum in the intake
so adding a spring may actually help the pancake ...all good for headaches
-
it doesnt matter much what car the base carb was from what does matter is has it been converted to
the correct spec for a 1600
the 1600 stroms do not have a damper/air piston spring but do have a thicker(heavier) diaphragm
ring . 1600 needles are normally 7B if you have pancake filters thats a whole can of worms
with little to advise on what if any needles are available

if you can send a small part to HQ they can get it colour matched for you

plastic based fuel lines were common in the late 70s for many manufacturers
if the bore is around 5/16 " its fine
1/4" and 5/16" seems to be commonly used across the range and various model years
the long length of old rubber may be a bigger problem with old and fake fuel hose being sold

and of the day all sealing was often the simple /cheap black bostik gutter type sealant .
easy to clean with white spirit , wont act as a glue but was used to seal all rubbers
of the day stays supple and does eventually glue everything .

manuals are the best bible we have but errors do exist as do the one bit of information
you need is often missing , i would guess some errors are corrected in service technical notes
used to advise dealers of changes or errors and later prints

if the rubber body is sound and still attached to the mount plate any flaking around the edges is
quite normal
as said its easy to find the replacements are worse than the old ones

the vitesse prop should have a telescope slide at one end generally the rear
if fitted to the front you cant grease it if needed .
