what ever do not go for a payen gasket we had serious troubles with one on a recessed 2500
the canley supplied gasket solved the disaster.
by your engine number it seems you have a flat non recessed block and the lack of tab doubles that thought

was watching Dream Car Fixers last week
and you would also see they changed a £680 diff when it only needed a paper gasket and pinion oil seal cost pennies
last week they showed the MGB head reckoned it needed unleaded inserts and the photo of the stripped head showed after 40 yrs of unleaded fuel the seats were as good as new
on the herald they sold on there was no mention of oil change or even oiling the trunions
a right pair of tv muppets as for the hood window there are a good few marine type that would have stitched in a new window if they were really trying to make a buck they would be a bit more care over poor decisions ,
if you were out to make a profit you would have stuck to points and pocket the £40
crazy program aimed at plonkers sorry its very poor

had there been any indications on previous drives ?? did you add the waterless stuff,
have you eliminated any air locks etc.

check the voltage stabiliser is giving a 10.5v pulsed output you may notice the fuel gauge is also reading higher
as steve says some senders have wildly wrong setting.
the thermostat controls the coolant flow and the radiator cools the engine output
the type of coolant should not affect this operation , the fact this coolant can withstand a higher temperature than other coolants has no bearing on the stats ability to control things
you need to check the readings are correct not look for scape goats ideas
do some checks and let us know .

I dont think that clatter is engine related ...have a look at drive line for some oddity

really you need to identify what is causing the slow return
cable must have some slack ,as temperature will open the idle if its too taut.
did you replace the throttle spindles ????
do make sure no air filter /gasket is not blocking the front face vents

yes if the wire hook doesnt work you fill the cavity with grease and need a punch of the same diameter as the input shaft , position the punch and give it good whack with a mallet and the grease will push the bush out . it should not be a tight fit in the crank but lifes not like that Ha !

it is just a rubber "bellows" it ether works or ...leaks bit like the bulb on a turkey baster
or antifreeze tester you just squeeze it to pressure water to the jets
its just a rubber thing no moving parts
some may have a simple ball to produce a valve but most are one in the bottle and one in the pipe
to the jets its all very simple
Pete

masking tape and news paper normally works well
Pete

the jets on H & V are long units to go thro the double skin ,some have a non return ball inside
the Tee to split into two feeds can have a ball inside
Pete
-
they do need a simple ball non return at the jets and in the bottle for the bellows to work or it just
sucks and blows via its easiest escape .
the bellows and the ones that had a elec push button do just screw into the back of the switch
we fitted the same wiper and elec pump switch to 1000s of trucks in the 70s 80s
but they are hard to find now even \jags used a similar arrangement Holden used to list them
but i dont see them now ??

just whats wrong with the old bellows
they must have a valve at the jets Tee and in the bottle
there is nothing in the bellows

why not talk to club shop who are supplied by Bell

the fact both sides are in differing positions makes me think this is something growing under the chrome

on recon alternators we had some good experience of when a diode had failed they just cut the wire to that diode
reduced the output ability but the warning lamps stayed off ...nice box, crap inside it
wonderful !!!!!!
Pete
-
it is probably silver solder has a higher melt but that all looks like its had a lot of diy work done in the past life
you dont need to desolder the diodes
-
have to say there is a program on tv about Dr pimple popper ???
sorry ...........thats really useful Ha !

getting the guy on the assy line to understand Phasing the Props on a truck with three shafts and two centre bearings was a challenge with getting all the yokes aligned and the variety of centre bearing bracket heights .....can be a nightmare with all the power derivatives and wheelbase tonnage thrown in for good confusion . all in the hands of a well meaning plonker with an air wrench

as its so easy to have the firing order wrong when messing about i would get No1 on tdc comression stroke check where the rotor is pointing , use that as No1 ....324anti clockwise for the ht leads
as you had the odd pop and bang thats where i would recheck
and with so many duff condensers try with is disconnected it should idle ok with it missing
but it wont drive .

and i dont think that would pass the current MOT reqd for welded patches
they seem to want a complete plate now not a jigsaw

overdrive can make vibrations if the 3 planet gears where not aligned on build
there are dots on the gear teeth and faint scribe lines on the carrier all have to aligned to get the
best running of the gears

i drove her out of Silverstone back to Tring with 2 jags and ERA4b on board , valued a £5 m (1997)
it was hard not to get carried away down the M4 at around 60mph
we (now being Renault) sent a TS3 over to the Berliet collection as they were interested
happy days
Pete
-
just a thought
what oil was used ?? the shaft ...was this a poorly hardened after market one used on the last rebuild
the needles have been seriously skidding . not rotating quite unusual
Pete

it was the TS4 that was cancelled by silly chrysler they had invested far too much into cummins
Vale range of noisey crap engines we were at i think chobham test track with a cummins and a TS4
wich really trashed the cummins so embarrassing it signed the death nell for the commer unit
they were ordered to scrap the 16 runners 4 were secreted away one is running in NZ
they used same cyinders and added one more so around 286 in and 240 bhp from memory(long faded)
being involved with pre production testing it was quite normal for a 16ton TS3 to
get 18/24 mpg which is still astonishing

Waterless Coolant
in Cooling System
Posted
and one other thing to note waxstats dont like to be boiled if the engine has overheated and blown out coolant the thermostat should be replaced on a mk3 82c is std.
but once cooked they tend to go out of control .
