i have a jar of non transitional grease we had to have for tachograph cables (had to have a giant barrel of this to conform to the installation licence being the first and only factory to get approval)
all ours were electronic of the day
(i still wonder why i pinched a load )
but this grease will not work its way up to the speedo head , disadvantage is it stinks and once under you finger nails you have it for a month ....really awful stuff

i have always used a chuck/3 jaw stud extractor with impact gun or a 3 ft breaker bar
even on Dougs stuburn studs Laser 3986 Impact Stud Extractor - Machine Mart - Machine Mart
it is normally corrosion between stud and head ,i have in the past got the head to raise enough to
slide a hacksaw blade in ,(protect faces with a bit of cornflake packet) cut the stud and punch the stud remains out of the head the threaded remains often undo with the fingers

always pays to pull the rack and grease it well
places like Washer & Wiper Systems | Stafford Vehicle Components (s-v-c.co.uk)
always good for a rummage at whats available
here and vintage car supplies have all the spline drive sizes you need and a range of baynet or shoe
ends/blades
what you cant get is a 15mm spine drive arm with a hook type end to take a aeroblade squeegee type modern blade .

i fitted 7mm thick arms for better pressure on the screen with adjustable lengths so could fit longer blades all from

if on points then back fires indicate a failed condenser
especially if it idles but wont power up to drive
if needed get one from distributor doctor his work and are tested
i seem to remember old posts about bronze guides seizing valves ??
any rubber slivers will be hiding behind the float valve .
condenser is my first thought

a pic of the upright will show us why it failed most fail due to thread corrosion starts a fracture
which works its way till failure , lack of oiling and general agism is the usual culprit

Im sure you wont have terry clips if the seat had the rubber risers blocks
apart from them helping with anti rattle the clips cannot be any safety feature

pump performance does also rely on no air leaks from hose connections .

if the problem is due to lack of engagement it is easy to with some grips turn the outer case , the spiral wound outer sheath
will if you wind the outer up or down it will make the inner protrude more or unwind make it less
its a common way to fix cables .

and the moggie minor today was as bad wne you are supposed to be making a profit
why fit a dynator at around £300 when a basic alternator is ££60 and they leave the regulator in place !!!! but why change any they didnt check the charging rate
and change the brake /strut/reaction rubbers to transform the handling
did they check the tyre ages or change the engine oil .not mentioned !!!!!
but spent £1100 getting the Sprite seats trimmed to colour match
its not program to be proud of ,

what worries me is with all these wonderful alternatives makes you ponder why on earth the engines have only lasted 50 years
its a bit late to get paranoid about coolant
i put most in the ....Must Have bin

the Bum has no pipes but does cause a lot of turbulence Ha
many use aquatic pipes on the air box as they are cheap and can be corrugated on the outside but smooth on the inside
had to use this on my 2000 as waste pipes dont align with any cold intake easy.
were Doomed ha !!!

this old nutshell keeps popping up its simple cold air has more molecules of oxygen per bucket full than hot air
so you get more bang from cold air than hot air
why 1600/mk1 dont show any collecting tubes is a mystery we will never get the answer but
but far better with than without !!!
we made some nice smooth tubes from 50mm waste pipe

and one other thing to note waxstats dont like to be boiled if the engine has overheated and blown out coolant the thermostat should be replaced on a mk3 82c is std.
but once cooked they tend to go out of control .

what ever do not go for a payen gasket we had serious troubles with one on a recessed 2500
the canley supplied gasket solved the disaster.
by your engine number it seems you have a flat non recessed block and the lack of tab doubles that thought
see
Rocker cover gasket

unless there is a distortion in the seal due to being stored wonky i have always fitted dry
if its got a mind of its own and wont sit flat then a smear of soft sealer
have seen the lifetime expire when glued down as the seal can tear quite easily
but i have dry fitted for many years without any problems
