  1. Assuming that the airbox I have fitted to my 1965 Vitesse 6 (150CD Strombergs) should it have 3 or 4 holes under the rear carb filter?
I only assume this is the correct airbox as I have many Triumph airboxes pass through my hands and have no idea if what I ended up fitting is the original.
TBH it makes no difference to me as long as it works well.

  2. On cars where i have relocated the battery to the rear I also run the neutral/earth cable from the battery up to the engine preferable a starter motor bolt.
Then to the bulkhead earthing point.
I would not rely on the chassis/body as a return path, they might be steel but many years of corrosion and the fact these cars are bolted together bits doesnt help.
I use welder cable from my electrical wholesaler.

  3. Or in my case when you have reinstalled the head and all the bits and bobs that go with it, fill the engine with coolant and notice a running water sound from the rear of the engine. Engine reconditioner forgot to  replace the welsh plug and I never noticed till it leaked.
Lesson learnt check the parts on pickup.

  4. But nothing quite like dropping the change on an Eaton 2 speed diff while driving through a tunnel and having to stop to reengage.
Company I work with has a Scania with one of those boxes, problem is not many of us can drive it and as I do so rarely it takes a while to get re-accustomed.
Doesnt help that leaving the yard is narrow residential then a main road with traffic crawl climb up to a narrow tunnel with one lane each way, forget looking in the mirrors its all about what coming the other way as 2 trucks just scrape past each other

  5. I recall grinding down the side of pads back in the late 80s for my Spitfire Mk4 6 fitted with Mk2 Vitesse front brakes.

And I have posted in the past about getting a set of 1144 pads to fit a Vitesse 6, they dont list them for it but the same caliper is used on a Lotus something or other.

  6. My personal interpretation of performance filters (size for size) is the only way to get more air through is to have bigger 'holes' which allows bigger 'dirt' particles.
On a slightly different subject this is interesting about oil filters.

  7. Back in the 1990s I owned a Lancia Delta HF Turbo (carb model) which was a very fast comfortable car. Probably the most expensive car I ever owned if we convert money know to back then.
I had parked outside a mates house on slight hill.
Knock on the door from the bloke over the road asking if someone at the house owned a red Lancia as it was parked in his front fence.
Handbrake had failed and the car had slowly rolled down the hill into his garden.
No damage to the car but a broken fence  which I repaired promptly as the owner was police officer

  8. The first truck I drove was a Bedford J when i was doing my time at the local power board.
A company I worked with had a TM with box body that we drove all over the country, I took it on its last trip for the company and it was just a cab and chassis by then.
It had the Detroit 671 2 smoke engine and a road ranger ( cant remember if it was a 13 or 15 speed, definitely not a 9 or 18) with out a body it was brisk rig.

  9. Interesting about the cataracts ops restoring vision.
My vision went bad after having my appendix removed 5 years ago when I was 52.
Never having been admitted to hospital or under a general anaesthetic till then my eye muscles decided enough was enough and you will have to wear glasses to read.
Therefore if they restore my appendix will my vision improve?
